Abstract

Difficulties in reading and writing are difficulties that quite a lot of students experience at the elementary school level, not only in the lower grades, it turns out that quite a lot of them also experience them in the higher grades. Therefore this study aims to describe : 1) the forms of reading and writing difficulties experienced by students with learning difficulties in high grades; 2) what are the factors that cause reading and writing difficulties for students with learning difficulties in high grades and; 3) the teacher's efforts in helping students who have difficulty reading and writing in high grades in grade IV students at SDN Bojong Baru. The subjects of this study were fourth grade students at SDN Bojong Baru, teachers and parents. The method used is a qualitative method with a case study type of research. Data was collected through observation, documentation and interviews. Data analysis was carried out through reduction, display and data verification. The results of the study: 1) the form of reading and writing difficulties consists of non-fluency in reading, lots of errors in reading, having deficiencies in visual memory, unable to understand sound symbols, illegible writing, late in writing, missing or upside down letters and errors in holding a pencil 2) reading and writing difficulties include internal and external factors. Internal factors include heredity, interest in reading and writing of the students themselves and motivational factors. While external factors include the existing facilities at school and family environmental factors or student residences 3) the efforts made by the teacher when dealing with students who have difficulty reading and writing, namely by providing remediation, using various learning media and reading and writing learning programs for students those who are not yet fluent in reading and writing, especially in high grades, must be held in every school.

Additional Information: Kesulitan membaca dan menulis adalah kesulitan yang sukup banyak dialami oleh siswa pada jenjang sekolah dasar, bukan hanya di kelas rendah ternyata cukup banyak juga dialami oleh anak-anak yang berada di kelas tinggi. Oleh karena itu p enelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan : 1) bentuk kesulitan membaca dan menulis yang dialami oleh siswa berkesulitan belajar di kelas tinggi;2) apa saja faktor-faktor yang mengakibatkan kesulitan membaca dan menulis siswa berkesulitan belajar di kelas tinggi dan; 3) upaya guru dalam membantu siswa yang mengalami kesulitan membaca dan menulis di kelas tinggi pada siswa kelas IV di SDN Bojong Baru. Subjek penelitian ini adalah Siswa kelas IV di SDN Bojong Baru, guru dan orang tua siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, dokumentasi dan wawancara. Analisis data dilakukan melalui reduksi, display dan verifikasi data. Hasil penelitian:1) bentuk kesulitan membaca dan menulis terdiri atas ketidaklancaran dalam membaca, banyak kesalahan dalam membaca, mempunyai kekurangan dalam memori visual, tidak mampu memahami simbol bunyi, tulisan tidak terbaca, terlambat dalam menulis, huruf hilang atau terbalik dan kesalahan dalam memegang pensil 2) faktor kesulitan membaca dan menulis diantaranya yaitu faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal meliputi faktor keturunan, faktor minat membaca dan menulis siswa itu sendiri dan faktor motivasi. Sedangkan faktor eksternal meliputi faktor fasilitas yang ada di sekolah dan faktor lingkungan keluarga atau tempat tinggal siswa 3) upaya yang dilakukan guru ketika menghadapi siswa yang mengalami kesulitan membaca dan menulis yaitu dengan memberikan remediasi, menggunakan berbagai media pembelajaran dan program pembelajaran membaca dan menulis bagi siswa yang belum lancar membaca dan menulis khususnya di kelas tinggi harus diadakan di setiap sekolah.
