Abstract

By using pineapple leaf fiber in this study, efforts were made to optimize the processing of waste from Indonesian pineapple plantations, especially from an economic and environmental perspective. The hand layup method has advantages such as flexibility in various applications and geometries at a low cost and does not require special training so it is very suitable for laboratory scale. In this research, the manufacture of composite materials with various types of thermoset polymers (unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy) and fiber directions are unidirectional, bidirectional, and random. The ratio of resin to fiber used in this study was 85:15%. Vinyl ester is the resin that produces the highest value of mechanical properties followed by epoxy and unsaturated polyester. Vinyl ester achieved a tensile strength value of 56.37 MPa, followed by polyester 54.07 MPa and epoxy 24.58 MPa in the unidirectional fiber direction. Vinyl ester is the resin that produces the highest flexural strength value followed by unsaturated polyester and epoxy. Vinyl ester achieved a tensile strength value of 91.35 MPa, followed by 90.75 MPa unsaturated polyester and 21.66 MPa epoxy in the unidirectional fiber direction. From the results of SPSS analysis of homogeneity with a significance of 0.096 ˃ 0.05, which means that the variation in the weight fraction is homogeneous. From the results of the SPSS analysis of variance, the significance is 0.295 and 0.118, which means that the variation used has no significant effect on density. The polymer composite reinforced with pineapple leaf fibers has a density value that depends on the proportion between the fibers and the matrix. The SPSS results of the Pearson correlation between fiber direction and resin type obtained a result of 0 which means that these two variables do not affect each other

Additional Information: Dengan menggunakan serat daun nanas dalam penelitian ini, dilakukan upaya untuk mengoptimalkan pengolahan limbah perkebunan nanas Indonesia, terutama dari segi ekonomi dan lingkungan. Metode hand lay-up memiliki kelebihan seperti fleksibilitas pada berbagai aplikasi dan geometri dengan biaya yang murah serta tidak memerlukan pelatihan khusus sehingga sangat cocok untuk dalam skala laboratorium. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pembuatan material komposit dengan variasi jenis polimer termoset (unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester, dan epoxy) dan arah serat unidirectional, bidirectional, dan random. Perbandingan resin dengan serat yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah 85:15%. Vinyl ester merupakan resin yang menghasilkan nilai sifat mekanik tertinggi diikuti oleh epoksi dan unsaturated polyester. Vinyl ester mencapai nilai kuat tarik 56,37 MPa, disusul oleh polyester 54,07 MPa dan epoxy 24,58 MPa pada arah serat unidirectional. Vinyl ester merupakan resin yang menghasilkan nilai kuat lentur tertinggi diikuti oleh unsaturated polyester dan epoxy. Vinyl ester mencapai nilai kuat tarik 91,35 MPa, disusul oleh unsaturated polyester 90,75 MPa dan epoxy 21,66 MPa pada arah serat unidirectional. Dari hasil SPSS analisa homogenity dengan signifikansi sebesar 0,096 ˃ 0,05 yang berarti variasi fraksi berat adalah homogen. Dari hasil SPSS analysis of variance signifikansinya adalah 0,295 dan 0,118 yang berarti variasi yang digunakan tidak mempunyai pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap densitas. Komposit polimer yang diperkuat dengan serat daun nanas, memiliki nilai densitas yang tergantung pada proporsi antara serat dan matriksnya. Hasil SPSS korelasi pearson antara arah serat dengan jenis resin didapat hasil 0 yang berarti kedua variabel ini tidak mempengaruhi satu sama lainnya.
