Abstract

The aim study of this study was to investigate students' difficulties in writing descriptive text, the most dominant difficulties faced by students, and student strategies to overcome these difficulties. This research was conducted in eighth grade of SMPN 1 Padarincang. This research was qualitative research with case study as a method. Data collection technique used in this study were observation, interviews and documentation. Based on the results of the study, it was found that students experienced difficulties in both aspects of learning, namely grammar and vocabulary difficulties. To overcome these difficulties, students choose to master vocabulary and learn from other sources such as books or the internet, while others like to read from the dictionary. From the explanation above it can be concluded that students have difficulty in writing descriptive texts. Besides the cause of the difficulties experienced by students is a lack of vocabulary and the last is the solution to the difficulties faced by students when learning students use google translate or a dictionary to help them in finding vocabulary when writing descriptive text activities.

Additional Information: Tujuan penelitian dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki kesulitan siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif, kesulitan yang paling dominan dihadapi oleh siswa, dan siswa strategi untuk mengatasi kesulitan-kesulitan tersebut. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan kedelapan kelas SMPN 1 Padarincang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan kasus belajar sebagai sebuah metode. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut ditemukan bahwa siswa mengalami kesulitan pada kedua aspek pembelajaran, yaitu kesulitan tata bahasa dan kosa kata. Untuk mengatasi kesulitan-kesulitan tersebut, siswa memilih untuk menguasai kosakata dan belajar dari sumber lain seperti buku atau internet, sementara yang lain suka membaca kamus. Dari penjelasan di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis teks deskriptif. Selain itu penyebab kesulitan yang dialami siswa adalah kurangnya kosakata dan yang terakhir adalah solusi atas kesulitan yang dihadapi siswa ketika belajar siswa menggunakan google Translate atau kamus untuk membantu mereka dalam menemukan kosakata saat kegiatan menulis teks deskriptif.
