Abstract

This research was conducted at SMPN 5 City of Serang for the 2022/2023 school year. This study aims to determine whether the mathematical critical thinking skills of students who study with the Problem Based Learning approach using Psychological Tools are better than students who learn with the Problem Based Learning approach both in terms of early mathematical ability or not and to see whether the increase in critical thinking of students who learn with the Problem Based Learning approach using Psychological Tools is better than students who study with the Problem Based Learning approach both in terms of their initial mathematical ability or not.. This study involved two classes consisting of an experimental class and a control class. The population of this study were all students of class VIII SMPN 5 City of Serang. This research sample consisted of an experimental class and a control class. After negotiating and discussing with the class VIII mathematics teacher at the school, the classes that will be sampled are class VIII J as the experimental class and class VIII I as the control class. The research method used in this study is a mixed method with a combination of quantitative and qualitative models using a concurrent embedded design. The research instrument consisted of an initial math ability test, a critical thinking ability test and an interview guide. The results showed that the ability to think critically mathematically and improve the critical thinking skills of students who received learning using the Problem Based Learning approach using Psychological Tools was better than students who received learning using the Problem Based Learning approach

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMPN 5 Kota Serang tahun ajaran 2022/2023 yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Problem Based Learning menggunakan Psychological Tools lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Problem Based Learning baik dilihat dari kemampuan awal matematis ataupun tidak serta untuk melihat apakah peningkatan berpikir kritis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Problem Based Learning menggunakan Psychological Tools lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Problem Based Learning baik dilihat dari kemampuan awal matematis ataupun tidak. Penelitian ini melibatkan dua kelas yang terdiri dari kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMPN 5 Kota Serang. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Setelah berunding dan berdiskusi dengan guru matematika kelas VIII di sekolah tersebut, maka kelas yang akan dijadikan sampel adalah kelas VIII J sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII I sebagai kelas kontrol. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kombinasi (mixed method) dengan model penggabungan kuantitatif dan kualitatif dengan menggunakan desain concurrent embedded design. Instrumen penelitian terdiri dari tes kemampuan awal matematis, tes kemampuan berpikir kritis dan pedoman wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis dan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Problem Based Learning menggunakan Psychological Tools lebih baik daripada siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Problem Based Learning.
