Abstract
This research aimed to analyze the integration of student-produced podcasts and English-speaking skills. This study used a case study method that included observation, questionnaire, interview, and documentation to collect the data. It engaged 20 students of NFBS Serang who were directly involved in the produced podcasts. The data were interpreted and discussed using theories of podcasting steps (Klass & Geoghegan, 2007), aspects of speaking (Brown, 2004), and characteristics of effective delivery (Lucas, 2009). The result of the observation emerged that the student-produced podcasts applied podcasting steps such as podcast preparation, recording, editing, and uploading processes. The hosts were guiding podcasting processes starting from the opening, accommodating Q&A sessions, and closing. Characteristics of effective delivery covered the speaker‘s voice and body. Meanwhile, the aspects of speaking elaborated grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Even though some mistakes were revealed during podcasting, they didn‘t obstruct the discussion. The result of questionnaires showed positive responses resulting in 81,71% on average. The fluency aspect revealed the most conspicuous among others that the percentages reached 92,5% both in positive and negative statements. It‘s supported by interview results that four out of eight respondents mentioned that podcasts encouraged them to speak fluently. Therefore, student- produced podcasts could be a medium for students to practice their speaking skills.
