Abstract

Biodiesel has the main by-product in the form of glycerol. Development Biodiesel productivity causes the amount of glycerol to increase and has an effect against the decline in the economic value of glycerol. How to use glycerol Converting it into a bioadditive in the form of solketal is believed to be wrong one alternative to overcome the problem of glycerol buildup. Solketal can be in production by reacting glycerol and acetone and a catalyst is also needed to speed up the reaction. Bayah natural zeolite and synthetic mordenite zeolite which want to be used as a catalyst still have low crystallinity and low surface area so it needs to be treated with desilication method. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of NaOH on the characteristics of natural Bayah zeolite and synthetic mordenite zeolite as well determine the effect of NaOH on the conversion of glycerol in the ketalization reaction. This research began with pre-treatment of zeolite through a desilication process with concentration variations

Additional Information: Biodiesel memiliki produk samping utama berupa gliserol. Perkembangan produktivitas biodiesel menyebabkan jumlah gliserol meningkat dan berpengaruh terhadap menurunnya nilai ekonomi dari gliserol. Pemanfaatan gliserol dengan cara mengkonversinya menjadi bioaditif berupa solketal diyakini dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif untuk mengatasi masalah penumpukan gliserol. Solketal dapat di produksi dengan cara mereaksikan gliserol dan aseton serta dibutuhkan juga katalis untuk mempercepat jalannya reaksi. Zeolit alam Bayah dan zeolit mordenit sintetis yang ingin dimanfaatkan sebagai katalis masih memiliki kristalinitas yang rendah dan luas permukaan yang rendah sehingga perlu dilakukan perlakuan dengan metode desilikasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh NaOH terhadap karakteristik zeolit alam Bayah dan zeolit mordenit sintetis serta mengetahui pengaruh NaOH terhadap konversi gliserol dalam reaksi ketalisasi.
