Abstract
ABSTRACT AN ERROR ANALYSIS OF SUPRASEGMENTAL IN STUDENTS‟ PRONUNCIATION (A content analysis study of the Eighth Grade of SMP N 8 Kota Serang Banten in the academic year 2013/2014) By Indah Restu Suriastuti 2223092443 This study is aimed to analyze the error of word stress made by eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 8 Kota Serang Banten in Academic year 2013/2014 in pronouncing English suprasegmental feature by reading aloud a descriptive text. The Objective of this study is to find out the kinds of word stress error the factor and reason students made error. In this research, the writer used qualitative method by using descriptive content analysis. She focused on finding errors of word stress. The data of this research was gathered by doing oral test, interview and documentation. In analyzing the data, the research used matrix analysis of Miles and Huberman that consist of data reduction, data display and drawing conclusion/verification. The finding of this research was the words of two syllables became the most common error. It could show in percentage which was 5% for one syllable words, 75% for two syllables words and 20% for the three syllables words. The other hand, the researcher also found the factors and reasons influencing this errors, the students lack of knowledge in word stress. They never learnt about word stress. They also did not get instruction to learn more about word stress. Keywords: Errors of suprasegmental feature, errors of word stress, kinds of word stress error, factors of word stress error
