Abstract
This study aims to describe the defensive actions and adaptation strategies carried out by conventional motorcycle taxis amid the modernization of online-based transportation services in Cipare, serang city. In studying defensive actions and adaptation practices carried out by conventional motorcycle taxis in Cipare, Serang City, research use Structural theory of Anthony Giddens which focuses on social practice, the theory of the relationship between agency and structure. Giddens states that there are three major clusters of structure. First, the structur of Signification, second, the structure of Domination, third, the structure of Legitimacy. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques used in this study include interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants consisted of six conventional motorcycle taxi users, two conventional motorcycle taxi users and two online motorcycle taxi users. The research result show how conventional motorcycle taxi drivers in Serang City respond to the modernization of online-based transportation services. In order to survive, they adapt and strategize by increasing the number of customers with a telephone pick-up system, providing different services and adjusting services based on the wishes of passengers, and providing a sense of trust with a friendly attitude and interactions that are built with users.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tindakan bertahan dan adaptasi strategi yang dilakukan oleh ojek konvensional di tengah modernisasi layanan transportasi berbasis online di Cipare Kota Serang. Dalam mengkaji tindakan bertahan dan praktik adaptasi yang dilakukan oleh ojek konvensional di Cipare Kota Serang, peneliti menggunakan teori Strukturasi Anthony Giddens yang berfokus pada praktik sosial, teori hubungan antara agensi dengan struktur. Giddens menyatakan ada tiga gugus besar struktur. Pertama, struktur Signifikasi, kedua, struktur Dominasi, ketiga, struktur Legitimasi. Adapun metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Informan penelitian terdiri dari enam ojek konvensional, dua pengguna ojek konvensional dan dua pengguna ojek online. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bagaimana para driver ojek konvensional di Kota Serang merespons modernisasi layanan transportasi berbasis online. Agar tetap bertahan mereka melakukan adaptasi dan strategi dengan memperbanyak pelanggan dengan sistem antar jemput melalui telpon, memberikan pelayanan berbeda dan menyesuaikan pelayanan berdasarkan keinginan penumpang, dan memberikan rasa kepercayaan dengan sikap ramah dan interaksi yang dibangun dengan pengguna. | |||||||||
