Abstract
Men's interest in Korean dramas, especially to the romance genre rarely seen compared to female viewers. The major of Korean drama viewers are women, which makes a significant difference in public’s eyes regarding to men who watch Korean romance drama genre. Researcher are interested in this topic to examining how the social construction of masculinity in male viewers of the Korean romance drama genre among Gen-Z men in Serang. This research using a qualitative approach with Theory of Social Reality Construction by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. This study using in-depth interview with 5 male viewers of the Korean drama romance genre as key informants and 2 supporting informants, observations, and literature studies. The results of the study explain that self-adjustment, process, interactions and actions of expressing meaning that are formed in the process of externalization, objectivation and internalization affects masculinity. The first one, externalization process divided into 4 sources which are the concept of masculinity directed by parents, obtained from social media, learned from films and the environment. The second one, process and interaction is also divided into 4 ways that is interaction with social media, Korean films and dramas, family and friends, it shows that men are more introverted and less expressive with their social but active on social media. Lastly, the act of expressing meaning in the process of internalization male viewers of Korean dramas build meaning based on experiences from their environment. Masculinity is interpreted as the role of men in the social environment which is not limited to behavior and character but also from the way of dressing and appearance.

Additional Information: | Ketertarikan lelaki pada drama korea terutama yang ber-genre romance terlihat jarang dibandingkan dengan penonton perempuan. Mayoritas penonton drama korea adalah perempuan kemudian membuat perbedaan yang signifikan di mata masyarakat tentang pria yang menonton drama korea genre romance. Peneliti tertarik untuk meneliti bagaimana konstruksi sosial maskulinitas pada pria penonton drama korea genre romance di kalangan pria GenZ di Kota Serang. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan yaitu pendekatan kualitatif dengan Teori Konstruksi Realitas Sosial Peter L. Berger dan Thomas Luckmann. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data wawancara mendalam dengan 5 pria penonton drama korea genre romance sebagai key informaan dan 2 informan pendukung, observasi, dan studi Pustaka. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa penyesuaian diri, cara dan interaksi serta aksi pengungkapan makna yang terbentuk dalam proses eksternalisasi, objektivasi dan internalisasi memengaruhi tentang maskulinitas. Pertama pada proses eksternalisasi yang terbagi menjadi 4 yaitu konsep maskulinitas yang diarahkan orang tua, didapat dari media sosial, dipelajari dari film dan lingkungan. Proses kedua cara dan proses interaksi juga terbagi menjadi 4 yaitu interaksi dengan media sosial, film dan drama korea, keluarga dan teman yang menunjukkan bahwa lelaki lebih tertutup dan kurang ekspresif dengan lingkungan sosial namun aktif di media sosial. Ketiga, aksi pengungkapan makna dalam proses internalisasi dimana pria penonton drama korea membangun makna berdasarkan pengalaman dari lingkungannya. Maskulinitas dimaknai sebagai peran laki-laki dalam lingkungan sosial yang tidak terbatas pada perilaku dan sifat saja melainkan juga dari cara berpakaian dan penampilan. | |||||||||
