Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays a crucial role in the economic development of countries worldwide. In the context of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), FDI has positively impacted ASEAN countries by enhancing productivity, job creation, technology transfer, and global market access. However, there are various challenges and issues affecting FDI inflows in the region, including political stability. This research aims to examine the influence of political stability, GDP, inflation, and exchange rate on FDI in seven ASEAN countries from 2012 to 2021. The research employs secondary data sourced from the World Bank and utilizes panel data analysis with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach. The findings reveal that political stability and exchange rate have a significant negative impact on FDI, while GDP and inflation have a significant positive impact on FDI. Moreover, when considered simultaneously, political stability, GDP, inflation, and exchange rate collectively exhibit a significant influence on FDI.
