Abstract

This research was aimed to know the response of flowering synchrony and seed quality of several lines of sweet corn (Zea mays subsp. mays L.) under boron fertilizer application. The research was conducted at the Experimental Garden of PT. Benih Sumber Andalan (BSA) in Dramaga District, Bogor Regency - West Java, from October 2022 until February 2023. This research used a Split Plot Design with two factors. Sweet corn line (G) as the main plot consisted of five levels, namely BSA1 line (G1), BSA2 line (G2), BSA3 line (G3), BSA4 line (G4), and BSA5 line (G5). The dose of boron fertilizer (B) as sub plots consisted of four levels, namely 0 kg/ha (B0), 10 kg/ha (B1), 15 kg/ha (B2), and 20 kg/ha (B3). The results showed that the BSA1 (G1) sweet corn line had the best effect on the male flowering time parameter (46.20 day after plant). The dose of boron B2 fertilizer (15 kg/ha) had the best effect on the parameters of male flowering time (46.20 DAP), female flowering time (48.15 DAP), ASI (Anthesis Silking Interval) (1.99 day), cob weight without cobs (156.94 g/plant), seed weight per cob (109.33 g/cob), number of seeds per cob (462.87 seeds/cob), and seed germination rate (96.64%). There was an interaction between the treatments of the corn lines sweet with doses of boron fertilizer on parameters of male and female flowering time. Combination treatment of BSA1 sweet corn line with boron fertilizer dose of 15 kg/ha (G1B2) showed the best effect on male flower flowering time (46.20 DAP) and female flowering time (48.15 DAP).

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui respons keserempakan berbunga dan mutu benih beberapa galur jagung manis (Zea mays L. var. Saccharata Sturt) terhadap aplikasi dosis pupuk boron. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan PT. Benih Sumber Andalan Kecamatan Dramaga, Kabupaten Bogor – Jawa Barat, pada bulan Oktober 2022 sampai Februari 2023. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Petak Terbagi (Split Plot Design) dengan 2 faktor. Galur jagung manis (G) sebagai petak utama terdiri dari 5 taraf yaitu Galur BSA1 (G1), Galur BSA2 (G2), Galur BSA3 (G3), Galur BSA4 (G4), dan Galur BSA5 (G5). Dosis pupuk boron (B) sebagai anak petak terdiri dari 4 taraf yaitu 0 kg/ha (B0), 10 kg/ha (B1), 15 kg/ha (B2), dan 20 kg/ha (B3). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa galur jagung manis BSA1 (G1) memberikan pengaruh terbaik terhadap parameter umur berbunga bunga jantan (46,20 hari). Dosis pupuk boron B2 (15 kg/ha) memberikan pengaruh terbaik terhadap parameter umur berbunga bunga jantan (46,20 hari), umur berbunga bunga betina (48,15 hari), ASI (Anthesis Silking Interval) (1,99 hari), bobot tongkol tanpa kelobot (156,94 g), bobot biji per tongkol (109,33 g), jumlah biji per tongkol (462,87 butir), dan daya kecambah benih (96,64 %).Terdapat interaksi antara perlakuan galur jagung manis dengan dosis pupuk boron pada parameter umur berbunga bunga jantan dan umur berbunga bunga betina. Kombinasi perlakuan galur jagung manis BSA1 dengan dosis pupuk boron 15 kg/ha (G1B2) memberikan pengaruh terbaik pada umur berbunga bunga jantan (46,20 hari) dan umur berbunga bunga betina (48,15 hari).
