Abstract

Corrosion is one of the main problems in industry, especially in cooling systems, refinery units, pipelines, chemicals, oil and gas production units, boilers and water processing, paints, pigments, lubricants and others. The use of inhibitors has been proven to be able to reduce the rate of corrosion, but it is limited by longterm stability, so it is necessary to provide other protection for mild steel, namely coating the metal with a coating material. Coating is the process of covering a base material with the aim of protecting the material from corrosion and providing protection to the material. The silica contained in rice husk extract and resin gum has the potential to be a good biocoating. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of gum resin concentration on the corrosion rate and corrosion rate efficiency. The method used in this research uses several methods, namely the weight loss method. The resin and silica sol obtained from ashing rice husks are mixed to form a homogeneous product. Metal samples that have been coated with biocoating material are soaked in a 1 M sulfuric acid solution, with varying resin concentrations of 25, 50, and 75 gr with soaking times of 1, 2, and 3 hours, and at temperatures of 30, 40, 60, and 80 °C, which was then tested for the capability of the biocoating material. The results of this research obtained the highest corrosion rate value of 0.8860 mmpy using a temperature of 80 °C, and a soaking time of 3 hours, with a corrosion efficiency value of 62.96%. Meanwhile, the lowest corrosion rate was 0.2143 mmpy at a temperature of 30 °C and a soaking time of 1 hour, with a corrosion efficiency value of 85.71%.

Additional Information: Korosi merupakan salah satu permasalahan utama di industri, terutama pada cooling systems, refinery units, pipelines, chemicals, oil and gas production units, boiler and water processing, paints, pigments, lubricants dan lain-lain. Penggunaan inhibitor telah terbukti mampu menurunkan laju korosi, hanya saja terkendala pada stabilitas untuk waktu yang lama, sehingga perlu dilakukan perlindungan lain terhadap mild steel yaitu melapisi logam dengan material coating. Coating adalah proses untuk melapisi suatu bahan dasar yang bertujuan untuk melindungi material dari korosi dan memberi perlindungan pada material tersebut. Silika yang terkandung dalam ekstrak sekam padi dan getah damar memiliki kandungan yang dapat berpotensi menjadi biocoating yang baik. Tujuan dilakukan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi getah damar terhadap nilai laju korosi dan efisiensi laju korosi. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini menggunakan beberapa metode yaitu metode weight loss. Getah damar dan sol silika yang telah diperoleh dari pengabuan sekam padi dicampurkan hingga membentuk suatu produk yang homogen. Sampel logam yang telah dilapisi oleh material biocoating dilakukan perendaman dalam larutan asam sulfat 1 M, dengan variasi konsentrasi getah damar 25, 50, dan 75 gr dengan waktu perendaman 1, 2, dan 3 jam, serta pada suhu 30, 40, 60, dan 80 °C, yang kemudian dilakukan uji kemampuan material biocoating. Hasil dari penelitian ini diperoleh nilai laju korosi tertinggi sebesar 0,8860 mmpy dengan menggunakan temperatur 80˚C, dan waktu perendaman selam 3 jam, dengan nilai efisiensi korosi sebesar 62,96%. Sedangkan laju korosi terendah yaitu sebsar 0,2143 mmpy dengan temperatur 30˚C, dan waktu perendaman 1 jam, dengan nilai efisiensi korosi sebesar 85,71%
