Abstract

An abstract of the thesis of Yeni Sumiati for the Master‘s degree in Education presented January 10, 2023. Title: Survey on The Impact of Reading Corner on Students‘ Reading and Writing Interest at SMPN 3 Cilegon This study aims to find out the impact of the implementation of a reading corner in schools on students' reading and writing interests at SMPN 3 Kota Cilegon. The population was all the students of seventh and eighth grades of the VII grade and VIII grade. The questionnaire was used to collect the data. Then, the results of linear regression calculations with the help of the SPSS 16.0 program were analysed. The calculated t-value (4.311) is greater than the t-table value (2.013) at a significance level of 0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0). This indicates that the presence of reading corners in the classroom positively influences students reading interests. It means the results showed that the application of the reading corner has an impact on the reading interests of students. This gives an indication that an effective learning activity for writing is based on students who have high reading interests and motivation. The results of the simple linear regression analysis indicated that the reading corner variable accounts for 28.8% of the variation in students‘ reading interest. The Effect of Interest in Reading corner on students Writing interest shows that the results of the analysis using SPSS 23 show that the error rate in the calculation of students‘ reading interest (X1) to students‘ interest in writing (Y) is 0.000 at an error level of 5%. The findings of this study demonstrate that the implementation of reading corners at SMPN 3 Cilegon has a positive impact on students‘ reading and writing interests. The provision of a reading -friendly environment appears to foster students‘ engagement with reading materials. A holistic approach that considers various elements of literacy promotion should be adopted to enhance students‘ overall reading and writing experiences at the VII grade and VIII grade of SMPN 3 Cilegon.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dampak penerapan pojok baca di sekolah terhadap minat membaca dan menulis siswa di SMPN 3 Kota Cilegon. Populasi adalah semua siswa kelas tujuh dan delapan, kelas VII dan kelas VIII. Kuesionernya adalah digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Kemudian hasil perhitungan regresi linier dengan bantuan Program SPSS 16.0 dianalisis. Nilai t hitung (4,311) lebih besar dari t tabel nilai (2,013) pada tingkat signifikansi 0,05 sehingga hipotesis nol ditolak (H0). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa keberadaan pojok baca di dalam kelas positif mempengaruhi minat membaca siswa. Artinya hasil menunjukkan bahwa penerapan Pojok membaca berdampak pada minat membaca siswa. Hal ini memberikan indikasi bahwa kegiatan pembelajaran menulis yang efektif didasarkan pada siswa yang mempunyai kemampuan membaca tinggi minat dan motivasi. Hasil analisis regresi linier sederhana menunjukkan bahwa Variabel sudut membaca memberikan kontribusi sebesar 28,8% terhadap variasi minat membaca siswa. Pengaruh Minat Membaca Sudut terhadap Minat Menulis siswa menunjukkan bahwa hasil analisis menggunakan SPSS 23 menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kesalahan dalam perhitungan minat membaca siswa (X1) terhadap minat menulis siswa (Y) sebesar 0,000 pada taraf kesalahan sebesar 5%. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pojok baca di SMPN 3 Cilegon memberikan dampak positif terhadap minat membaca dan menulis siswa. Itu penyediaan lingkungan yang ramah membaca tampaknya mendorong keterlibatan siswa dalam membaca bahan bacaan. Pendekatan holistik yang mempertimbangkan berbagai elemen promosi literasi harus diadopsi untuk meningkatkan pengalaman membaca dan menulis siswa secara keseluruhan di Kelas VII kelas dan kelas VIII SMPN 3 Cilegon.
