Abstract

ENSO (El Nino Southern Oscillation) is a form of climate deviation in the Pacific Ocean which is characterized by an increase in Sea Surface Temperature (SST) in the Central and Eastern parts of the equator which affects the increase and decrease in rainfall. The rainy season in Indonesia generally occurs from October to March and the dry season occurs from April to September. This study aims to determine the effect of the ENSO phenomenon on cloud distribution and rainfall variations in Tangerang District. The data used is in the form of secondary data obtained from the BMKG Meteorology Budiarto including rainfall data, cloud cover, wind direction and speed. In addition, Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) data is also used, sourced from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) website. The data analysis used is surface weather analysis and pearson correlation analysis. The results showed that based on surface weather analysis, ENSO events had an effect on cloud distribution in Tangerang District. The clouds that dominate when the ENSO phenomenon occurs are Cumulus and Nimbrostratus clouds with a cloud cover of 4-8 octaves. Meanwhile, the results of the correlation test showed that ENSO had an effect on rainfall variations in Tangerang Regency, both seasonally and annually.
