Abstract

The G20 is a world community that almost controls a large part of the global economy, global trade, and leads in the production of renewable energy. But on the other hand it is also the producer of most of global carbon emissions. Thus, the G20 is largely responsible for reducing carbon emissions, this effort is demonstrated through the signing and submission of the NDCs Document to the Paris agreement with the target of reducing global temperatures to a minimum of 1.5°C until 2025- 2030 and below 2°C and net- zero emissions by 2050. Mitigation of climate change and its impacts is also the 13th goal in the sustainable development agenda (SDGs. 13). This research covers 19 countries and the European Union which are members of the official G20. Using the Pooled Mean Group (PMG) method, this study shows that in the short term, renewable energy consumption, gross domestic product per capita, foreign investment and percentage of population do not have a significant effect on per capita carbon emissions, but show a significant effect in the long term. On the other hand, the added value of the industrial sector has a negative and significant effect in the short term and does not have a significant long term effect on carbon emissions in the G20. The Environmental Kuznets Curve analysis applied in this study confirms the existence of an “Inverted U-Curve” that is formed, and individually confirmed in three G20 member countries namely Indonesia, Japan and South Korea.

Additional Information: G20 merupakan sebuah komunitas dunia yang hampir menguasi sebagian besar dari perekonomian global, perdagangan global, hingga memimpin dalam produksi energi terbarukan. Namun disisi lain juga penghasil sebagian besar emisi karbon global. Sehingga, G20 bertanggung jawab yang besar dalam penurunan emisi karbon, upaya ini ditunjukkan melalui penandatangan dan penyerahan Dokumen NDCs pada pesetujuan paris dengan target untuk menurunkan suhu global di angka miniminum 1,5°C hingga 2025-2030 dan dibawah 2°C dan net-zero emissions pada tahun 2050. Mitigasi perubahan iklim dan dampaknya juga menjadi tujuan ke-13 dalam agenda pembangunan berkelanjutan (SDGs. 13). Penelitian ini meliputi 19 negara dan Uni Eropa yang tergabung sebagai keanggotaan resmi G20. Dengan menggunakan metode Pooled Mean Group (PMG) penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam periode jangka pendek konsumsi energi terbarukan, produk domestik bruto per kapita, penanaman modal asing dan persentase penduduk tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap emisi karbon perkapita namun menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh signifikan dalam jangka panjang. Sebaliknya, nilai tambah sektor industri berpengaruh negatif dan signifikan dalam jangka pendek dan tidak berpengaruh signifikan dalam jangka panjang terhadap emisi karbon di G20. Analisis Environmental Kuznets Curve yang diaplikasikan dalam penelitian ini mengkonfirmasi adanya “Kurva U-Terbalik” yang terbentuk, dan secara individual terkonfirmasi pada tiga negara keanggotaan G20 yakni Indonesia, Jepang dan Korea Selatan.
