Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out the teacher strategies in teaching reading comprehension. The researcher utilizes the descriptive qualitative analysis with a case study method with observing and interviewing the participant to get the data. The writer herself is the instrument of this research to analyze the data after observing and interviewing the participant. Based on the results of the study, it showed that the strategies that the teacher used in teaching reading comprehension in SMAN 1 Cikande were three strategies, First, the scaffolding strategy that make the students easy. Second, the teacher uses the QARs (Question Answer Relationships) strategy, in which she asks her students about content of the text after they finish reading it. Third, discussion strategies that can make students more active in exchanging ideas when discussing with classmates. The teachers used these strategies to make the student understand the reading text and the students guided to more focus on the text and also teacher could help students in developing the meaning contained in the text reading so that students more easily understand the contents of reading.

Additional Information: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui strategi guru dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca. Peneliti menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus dengan observasi dan wawancara kepada partisipan untuk mendapatkan data. Penulis sendiri adalah instrumen penelitian ini untuk menganalisis data setelah mengamati dan mewawancarai partisipan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi yang digunakan guru dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca di SMAN 1 Cikande ada tiga strategi, Pertama, strategi scaffolding yang memudahkan siswa. Kedua, guru menggunakan strategi QARs (Question Answer Relationships), yaitu menanyakan siswanya tentang isi teks setelah mereka selesai membacanya. Ketiga, strategi diskusi yang dapat membuat siswa lebih aktif bertukar pikiran ketika berdiskusi dengan teman sekelas. Guru menggunakan strategi tersebut untuk membuat siswa memahami teks bacaan dan siswa dibimbing agar lebih fokus pada teks tersebut dan juga guru dapat membantu siswa dalam mengembangkan makna yang terkandung dalam teks bacaan tersebut sehingga siswa lebih mudah memahami isi bacaan.
