Abstract

This research aimed to investigate students’ perception on speaking practice using storytelling in class 11 of Hotel Accomodation Vocational High School. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research through survey. Questionnaire and interview were used as date collection technique. Based on the findings, the researcher found that the students have an impact of a development from doing storytelling in class. The development they felt are vocabulary, pronounciation, grammar, and public speaking. The students found challenges in performing storytelling but they succeed to overcome and develop their English speaking skill. They feel more confident to communicate to people using English. The conclusion of this research are the students have good perception on storytelling technique to develop their speaking skill and they feel suitable to use it. They also could overcome the difficulties with the teacher’s guide. Thus, they could get the benefits.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki persepsi siswa tentang latihan berbicara menggunakan bercerita di kelas 11 SMK Akomodasi Hotel. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif melalui survei. Kuesioner dan wawancara digunakan sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, peneliti menemukan bahwa siswa mendapat dampak perkembangan dari melakukan bercerita di kelas. Perkembangan yang mereka rasakan adalah kosa kata, pengucapan, tata bahasa, dan public speaking. Para siswa menemukan tantangan dalam melakukan storytelling tetapi mereka berhasil mengatasi dan mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris mereka. Mereka merasa lebih percaya diri untuk berkomunikasi dengan orang menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah siswa memiliki persepsi yang baik terhadap teknik bercerita untuk mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara mereka dan mereka merasa cocok untuk menggunakannya. Mereka juga dapat mengatasi kesulitan tersebut dengan bimbingan guru. Dengan demikian, mereka bisa mendapatkan manfaatnya.
