Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the influence of using the Busuu application on students' vocabulary mastery. This study used quantitative methods. True experiment technique, pretest and post-test control group design were used to collect data. This study was conducted to learn more about how the influence of the Busuu application can help students improve their vocabulary mastery. This research involved 34 students in 7th-grade at a junior high school in Banten, Indonesia. After treatment using the Busuu application, the results revealed that the Busuu application helps students improve their vocabulary mastery. This is demonstrated by a rise in the students' pre- and post-test average scores (pre-test 65.41 to post-test 84.59). In the normality test, the significance value of the pretest and posttest is more than 0.05 (0.200 > 0.05, 0.143 > 0.05), it implies that the data from the pretest and posttest results are normally distributed. The results of the Z-test show that the significance value is Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.029 <0.05. The significance value is 0.029, meaning it is lower than 0.05, then Ho is rejected, it means that the learning outcomes before and after using the Busuu application are not the same. Furthermore, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence on students' vocabulary mastery before and after using the Busuu application.

Additional Information: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan aplikasi Busuu terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Teknik penelitian sesungguhnya (true experiment), desain kelompok kontrol pretest dan post-test digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui lebih jauh bagaimana pengaruh aplikasi Busuu dapat membantu siswa meningkatkan penguasaan kosakatanya. Penelitian ini melibatkan 34 siswa kelas 7 di sebuah sekolah menengah pertama di Banten, Indonesia. Setelah dilakukan treatment menggunakan aplikasi Busuu, diperoleh hasil bahwa aplikasi Busuu membantu siswa meningkatkan penguasaan kosakatanya. Hal ini terlihat dari peningkatan nilai rata-rata siswa sebelum dan sesudah tes (pre-test 65,41 menjadi post-test 84,59). Pada uji normalitas nilai signifikansi pretest dan posttest lebih dari 0,05 (0,200 > 0,05, 0,143 > 0,05), artinya data hasil pretest dan posttest berdistribusi normal. Hasil uji Z menunjukkan nilai signifikansi Asymp. (2-tailed) adalah 0,029<0,05. Nilai signifikansinya sebesar 0,029 artinya lebih kecil dari 0,05 maka H0 ditolak artinya hasil belajar sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan aplikasi Busuu tidak sama. Selanjutnya dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan aplikasi Busuu.
