Abstract

This study aims to improve high school students' mathematical communication skills in terms of their stages of cognitive development. This study used a quasiexperimental method with pretest posttest control design. The subjects in this study were 62 class X students at SMA Negeri 1 Ciomas in the even semester of the 2022/2023 school year. There were two classes in the study, namely the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class consisted of 30 students, who received mathematics learning with a metacognitive scaffolding approach, while the control class consisted of 32 students, who received mathematics learning with a scientific approach. Students' mathematical communication abilities were grouped into three categories based on the results of the TOLT cognitive development stage test, namely concrete, transitional, and formal. The data collection instrument consisted of the TOLT test instrument and a mathematical communication ability test. By using the t test, the Two Way ANNOVA test, and the Games Howell POST HOC test, several conclusions were obtained, namely: 1) the increase in the mathematical communication skills of high school students who received a metacognitive scaffolding approach was better than students who used a scientific approach?; 2) the improvement of high school students' mathematical communication skills in the formal stage is better than the concrete and transition stages?; 3) is there an interaction effect between the learning approach and the stage of cognitive development on the improvement of high school students' mathematical communication abilities? So that the learning approach applied in this study has a significant influence on improving high school students' mathematical communication abilities.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMA ditinjau daru tahapan perkembangan kognitifnya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi-eksperimen dengan desain kontrol pretes postes. Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X di SMA Negeri 1 Ciomas pada semester genap tahun ajaran 2022/2023, sebanyak 62. Di dalam penelitian terdapat dua kelas yaitu, kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen terdiri dari 30 siswa, yang memperoleh pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan metakognitif scaffolding, sedangkan kelas kontrol terdiri dari 32 siswa, yang memperoleh pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan saintifik. Kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa dikelompokkan dalam tiga kategori berdasarkan hasil tes tahap perkembangan kognitif TOLT, yaitu konkret, transisi, dan formal. Instrumen pengumpulan data terdiri dari instrumen tes TOLT dan tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis. Dengan menggunakan uji t, uji ANNOVA Two Way, dan uji POST HOC Games Howell, diperoleh beberapa kesimpulan, yaitu: 1) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMA yang mendapatkan pendekatan metakognitif scaffolding lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan saintifik?; 2) peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMA di tahap formal lebih baik dibandingkan dengan tahap konkret dan transisi?; 3) terdapat pengaruh interaksi antara pendekatan pembelajaran dan tahap perkembangan kognitif terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMA? Sehingga pendekatan pembelajaran yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini memberikan pengaruh secara signifikan terhadap peningkatan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMA.
