Abstract
Non-asbestos brake lining serves as a safer alternative to asbestos, which poses a potential threat to human health and the environment. The present study evaluates the mechanical properties of non-asbestos brake lining reinforced with marine coral powder (SKL) and Magnesium Oxide (MgO). The study analyzes the volume fraction variations of MgO (0%, 10%, and 20%) and tire rubber powder (SKB) (0% and 10%) to gauge the characteristics of the resultant non-asbestos brake linings. Marine coral powder was used as a reinforcement material with volume fraction variations ranging from 0% to 30%. Two different resin ratios, 60% and 70%, were employed in this experimental research study. Mechanical properties of the samples were examined using a bending test, hardness tester, and wear tester. Results obtained from the experiments showed that the flexural properties of sample 1 were 5.56 N/mm^2, sample 2 was 6.62 N/mm^2, sample 3 was 8.82 N/mm^2, and sample 4 was 8.70 N/mm^2. The hardness values of all four samples were measured, with sample 1 at 64.25 HRB, sample 2 at 57 HRB, sample 3 at 74 HRB, and sample 4 at 73 HRB. Additionally, wear rates were determined, with sample 1 showing 0.01429435 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m, sample 2 exhibiting 0.07970196 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m, sample 3 with 0.05452379 x 10^-5 mm^3/m, and sample 4 with 0.04369066 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m. Sample 3, composed of MgO 20%, Resin 60%, SKL 10%, and SKB 10%, displayed the highest flexural and hardness properties at 8.82 N/mm^2 and 74 HRB, respectively. For the greatest wear resistance in sample 2, the optimal mixture consisted of 10% MgO, 60% Resin, 30% SKL, and 0% SKB, resulting in a wear value of 0.07970196 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen. Pengujian sifat mekanik dilakukan dengan menggunakan mesin uji lentur, mesin uji kekerasan dan mesin uji aus. Hasil pengujian sifat mekanik menunjukan nilai kelenturan sampel 1 sebesar 5,56 N/mm^2, sampel 2 sebesar 6,62 N/mm^2, sampel 3 sebesar 8,82 N/mm^2, dan sampel 4 sebesar 8,70 N/mm^2. Untuk nilai kekerasan sampel 1 sebesar 64,25 HRB, sampel 2 sebesar 57 HRB, sampel 3 sebesar 74 HRB, dan sampel 4 sebesar 73 HRB. Sedangkan nilai laju keausan sampel 1 sebesar 0,01429435 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m, sampel 2 sebesar 0,07970196 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m, sampel 3 sebesar 0,05452379 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m, dan sampel 4 sebesar 0,04369066 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m. Karakteristik sifat mekanik dengan nilai kelenturan dan kekerasan tertinggi terdapat pada sampel 3 komposisi MgO 20% Resin 60% SKL 10% SKB 10% sebesar 8,82 N/mm^2 dan 74 HRB. Untuk nilai keausan tertinggi pada sampel 2 komposisi MgO 10% Resin 60% SKL 30% SKB 0% sebesar 0,07970196 x 10^(-5) mm^3/m.
