Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of mathematics in education which is the focus of the government to improve the quality of students. In improving the ability of students, an understanding of the material is needed. However, it is not uncommon for students to have difficulty understanding the material provided. Building a curved side room is one of the materials that is considered difficult. The implementation of sphere material on curved side shapes makes students feel difficult because the questions presented are in the form of stories. The use of projects as media will make it easier for students to understand sphere material. Project-based learning can be a choice of learning models that can improve student learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the effect of the project-based learning model on student learning outcomes, to find out how students collaborate in groups, to find out the factors of project-based learning that affect student understanding. The method used in this research is a mixed method, which combines quantitative and qualitative research with an embedded design. The population in this study were students of class IX at SMP Negeri 14 Kota Serang. The samples used were class IX G as the experimental class and class IX F as the control class. The instrumens used in this study were test instrumens in the form of post-tests and non-test instrumens in the form of interview guides and observation sheets. The results of the study show that there is a positive effect of using the project-based learning model on student learning achievement, there is collaboration that exists in each group in completing brooch-making projects, and the factor of project-based learning that influences student understanding is the implementation of material with daily life-day; learning that sharpens skills and adds experience; and learning with friends.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya matematika pada pendidikan menjadi fokus pemerintah untuk meningkatkan mutu siswa. Dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa, pemahaman materi sangat dibutuhkan. Tetapi, tak jarang siswa kesulitan dalam memahami materi yang diberikan. Bangun ruang sisi lengkung menjadi salah satu materi yang dianggap sulit. Implementasi dari materi bola pada bangun ruang sisi lengkung membuat siswa merasa kesulitan karena soal yang disajikan berbentuk cerita. Penggunaan proyek sebagai media akan memudahkan siswa dalam memahami materi bola. Project-based learning dapat menjadi pilihan model pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan capaian belajar siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model project-based learning terhadap capaian belajar siswa, mengetahui bagaimana kolaborasi siswa dalam kelompok, mengetahui faktor dari project-based learning yang berpengaruh terhadap pemahaman siswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode campuran yakni menggabungkan penelitian kuantitatif dengan kualitatif dengan desain embedded. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas IX SMP Negeri 14 Kota Serang. Sampel yang digunakan adalah kelas IX G sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas IX F sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah instrumen tes berupa post-test dan instrumen non-tes berupa pedoman wawancara dan lembar observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adanya pengaruh positif penggunaan model project-based learning terhadap capaian belajar siswa, adanya kolaborasi yang terjalin pada tiap kelompok dalam menyelesaikan proyek pembuatan bros, serta faktor dari project-based learning yang mempengaruhi pemahaman siswa adalah implementasi materi dengan kehidupan sehari-hari; pembelajaran yang mengasah keterampilan dan menambah pengalaman; dan pembelajaran bersama teman.
