Abstract

The research aims to describe the existence of regional batik motifs among the people of Serang City as civic culture. The research was conducted in Serang City using a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques of observation, interview, and documentation. The resource persons were DINKOPUKMPERINDAG of Serang City, Banten heritage batik producers, and the people of Serang City. The results showed that batik typical of Serang City already exists among the people of Serang City, although there are some people who do not know and use batik typical of Serang City, but its existence is already known by the public. The Serang City Govermnet has made efforts with promotion and providing support to batik producers at exibitions and cultural events held, although the socialization process has not been carried out thoroughly in all circles of society. In the production process of batik typical of Serang City, there are obstacles in the skills of the craftsmen and the unstable price of raw materials as well as the public’s unfamiliarity with the knowledge of the types of batik, which has an impact on people still choosing to use typical batik from other cities.
