Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out whether there is any significant effective of using video subtitle on students reading comprehension at SMP Negeri 9 Kota Serang. Also to know whether video strategy is effective or not in influence students’ reading comprehension at eighth grade of SMP Negeri 9 Kota Serang. The population of this research was all of students of the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 9 Kota Serang, and the sample that was used in this research was taken random sampling. The researcher took two classes as a sample research (A class and B class). A class consist 30 students as control and B class consist of 30 students as experimental class. The researcher used quantitative research implementing the true experimental for the research method in this research. The purpose of quantitative research was to know the effectiveness of using video subtitle on students’ reading comprehension. The result of pre-test on experimental class: the higher score = 85, the lowest score = 45, Range score = 40, and mean score = 66.1, where as the result of pre-test on control class, highest score = 8, the lowest score = 35, Range score = 45, and mean score = 60.2. And then the result of post-test on experimental class were the highest score = 95, the lowest score = 65, Range score = 30, and mean score = 80,83 where as the result of post-test on control class were highest = 90, the lowest score = 50, Range sore = 40, and mean score = 71,9. It shows that the score of experimental class is higher than control class. The instrument of research was the test Multiple choice. In conclusion, the researcher concludes that using video subtitle is effective to influence students’ reading comprehension skill.
