Abstract

Twitter among K-Pop fans is a place for channeling informations to increasing and growing the fandom community. The intensity of media users using social media to see their idol can lead to parasocial relationships and interactions. Fans form an imaginary relationship with their idol and often feel that their idol is their girlfriend or boyfriend, so that just seeing their idol’s face makes them excited. This study uses a case study method, qualitative approach, and descriptive trait. Interviews were conducted with five informants who belong to the ARMY fandom aged 18-29 years. This research resulted in the impact of parasocial interactions regarding Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) son as friend or relatives. Informants indicated that there was an affectionate relationship which was conveyed by means of conveying verbal messages via Twitter, messages nonverbally, and in the form of support. The factors that establishe ARMY's affectionate relationship with BTS is due to an attitude of trust and an open attitude. This attitude of trust is based on empathy and acceptance by the fandom towards BTS, such as the attachment between BTS songs and lyrics that are considered the same as the life that the fandom has, such as the struggle againts mental illness. An open attitude in wich the fandom understands BTS’s stuggles to reach their current success and BTS appreciates and thanks the fandom for everything that the fandom has given to BTS.

Additional Information: Twitter di kalangan penggemar K-Pop merupakan sebuah wadah penyaluran informasi untuk meningkatkan dan menumbuhkan komunitas fandom. Intensitas pengguna media menggunakan media sosial untuk melihat figur idolanya dapat menimbulkan hubungan dan interaksi parasosial. Penggemar membentuk relasi imajiner dengan idolanya dan sering kali merasa idolanya adalah pacarnya, hingga hanya dengan melihat wajah idolanya sudah membuat dirinya bersemangat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi kasus, pendekatan kualitatif, dan dengan sifat deskriptif. Wawancara dilakukan pada lima informan yang termasuk dalam fandom ARMY dengan usia 18-29 Tahun. Penelitian ini menghasilkan adanya dampak interaksi parasosial mengganggap Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) sebagai teman atau saudara. Informan menunjukkan adanya hubungan afeksionis yang disampaikan dengan cara penyampaian menggunakan pesan verbal melalui Twitter, penyampaian pesan secara nonverbal, dan dalam bentuk dukungan. Faktor terjalinnya hubungan afeksionis ARMY terhadap BTS dikarenakan adanya sikap percaya dan sikap terbuka. Sikap percaya didasari rasa empati dan penerimaan yang dilakukan fandom terhadap BTS seperti keterikatan antara lagu BTS dengan lirik yang dianggap sama dengan kehidupan yang dimiliki fandom seperti perjuangan melawan mental illness. Sikap terbuka dimana fandom memahami perjuangan BTS hingga sampai pada kesuksesannya sekarang dan BTS menghargai dan berterimakasih kepada fandom atas segala yang diberikan fandom kepada BTS.
