Abstract
This study aimed to find out whether or not there was any influence of using graphic organizer towards students reading comprehension at the eighth grade of Mtsn 1 Kota Serang. The researcher used quantitative research in the form of quasi experiment design. This research was carried out in Mtsn1 Kota Serang. There were two classes as research samples, namely class VIII-I as the experimental class and class VIII-J as the control class. Experimental class consisted of 32 students and control class consisted of 33 students. The data were collected by try out, pre test, and post test. Then the data were analyzed by SPSS. The results from post test indicated a significant improvement in the experimental group’s scores with mean 90.50 and Standard deviation 5.400. Compared to the control group with mean 82.06 and Standard Deviation 7.591. Moreover, the results of hypothesis test with Sig 0.000 and α= 0.05. It means to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and accept the alternative hypothesis (Ha) because 0.000 > 0.05. It is lower than 0.05. These results explain that there was a significant influence of using graphic organizer towards reading comprehension at VIII grade students of Mtsn 1 Kota Serang.The results of this study can be used as recommendations for innovative learning models in teaching reading in the classroom.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya pengaruh penggunaan graphic organizer terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VIII Mtsn 1 Kota Serang. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif dalam bentuk quasi eksperimen design. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Mtsn1 Kota Serang. Terdapat dua kelas sebagai sampel penelitian yaitu kelas VIII-I sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII-J sebagai kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen terdiri dari 32 siswa dan kelas kontrol terdiri dari 33 siswa. Data dikumpulkan dengan try out, pre test, dan post test. Kemudian data dianalisis dengan SPSS. Hasil post test menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada nilai kelompok eksperimen dengan rata-rata 90,50 dan standar deviasi 5,400. Dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol dengan rata-rata 82,06 dan Standar Deviasi 7,591. Apalagi hasil uji hipotesis dengan Sig 0,000 dan α = 0,05. Artinya menolak hipotesis nol (H0) dan menerima hipotesis alternatif (Ha) karena 0,000 > 0,05. Itu lebih rendah dari 0,05. Hasil ini menjelaskan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan penggunaan graphic organizer terhadap pemahaman bacaan pada siswa kelas VIII Mtsn 1 Kota Serang. Hasil penelitian ini dapat digunakan sebagai rekomendasi model pembelajaran inovatif dalam pengajaran membaca di kelas. | |||||||||
