Abstract

The objectives of the research are to know the implementation of mind mapping in teaching reading narrative text and to know students’ responses toward implementation of mind mapping in teaching reading narrative text at the first semester of ninth grade SMP Bina Insan Pulomerak Cilegon. This research is descriptive qualitative research uses 13 students as the subject and applying mind mapping in teaching reading narrative text. In teaching learning English, especially in reading subject, the teacher often asked to the students to read the English text, in order to make it easy for the students in understanding English text. The students still find the difficulties in reading. Beside, the students don’t know the meaning of English text, the students difficult find the parts of generic structure in narrative text using mind mapping. Even though mind mapping need long time, but it gives many advantages for the students, such as: it gives easy way for the students to plan, communicate, be creative, arrange, and explain the ideas efficiently when they want to work with others, and then it gives easy way for the students to memorable words. Based on the result of questionnaire, the students give positive response during teaching learning process especially in teaching learning reading narrative text using mind mapping. Some of the students said that they liked to learn reading English text and try to find generic structure in narrative text using mind mapping, so the students can motivate their selves to do the best. Then, the other students felt interested using mind mapping in teaching learning process because this research can be more creative in learning process.
