Abstract

Bentonite Bojong Manik Lebak Banten is a mineral that has shape like clay (clay). This study used bentonite from Bojong Manik Lebak Banten which has characteristics as a catalyst heterogeneous in nature so that it can be used in the manufacture of biodiesel made from used cooking oil. The purpose of this study was to make bentonite heterogeneous catalysts, to find the optimum conditions for making biodiesel based on the mass of KOH during impregnation, time and operating temperature. The method used in this study is the catalyst preparation process using the impregnation method mass variations of KOH/100 ml of distilled water, namely 20 gr KOH, 30 gr KOH, 40 gr KOH and 50 gr KOH and the transesterification method in making biodiesel with temperature variations of 50 C and 60 C and operating time of 1, 2 and 3 hours. The results of the research stated that the optimum condition for making biodiesel was mass bentonite catalyst 30 gr KOH/100 ml distilled water at operating temperature of 60 C for 3 hours. Under optimum conditions, the yield of biodiesel is 84.40%, density of 852 kg/m3, viscosity of 3.94 cSt, fatty acid methyl ester (%FAME) of 97.54% and flash point at 130 C.

Additional Information: Bentonit Bojong Manik Lebak Banten merupakan bahan galian yang memiliki bentuk seperti tanah liat (clay). Penelitian ini menggunakan bentonit yang berasal dari Bojong Manik Lebak Banten yang memiliki karakteristik sebagai katalis heterogen alami sehingga dapat digunakan dalam pembuatan biodiesel berbahan baku minyak jelantah. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk membuat katalis heterogen bentonit, mencari kondisi optimum dalam pembuatan biodiesel berdasarkan massa KOH pada saat impregnasi, waktu dan suhu operasi. Metode yang digunakan pada riset ini yaitu proses preparasi katalis dengan metode impregnasi menggunakan variasi massa KOH/100 ml aquades yaitu 20 gr KOH, 30 gr KOH, 40 gr KOH dan 50 gr KOH dan metode transesterifikasi dalam pembuatan biodiesel dengan variasi suhu 50 C dan 60 C serta waktu operasi 1, 2 dan 3 jam. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa kondisi optimum dalam pembuatan biodiesel yaitu pada massa katalis bentonit 30 gr KOH/100 ml aquades pada suhu operasi 60 oC selama 3 jam. Pada kondisi optimum menghasilkan yield biodiesel sebesar 84,40%, densitas sebesar 852 kg/m3, viskositas sebesar 3,94 cSt, fatty acid methyl ester (%FAME) sebesar 97,54% serta flash point pada suhu 130 C.
