Abstract

In understanding chemistry lessons, students tend to have difficulties, especially material that has abstract concepts. This is due to the change in learning prises from online to face-to-face, causing students to become passive and low learning outcomes. To overcome these problems, appropriate learning methods are needed to improve the development of students' cognitive abilities, the Novick Learning Model can be used as an alternative learning model applied, Because this learning model requires students to express initial conceptions and be able to make conclusions so that understanding concepts becomes better. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in cognitive abilities of students before and after the application of the Novick learning model on electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solution materials. The design used in this study was a one-group pretest-posttest. From the research, Learning implementation was obtained by applying the Novick learning model of 97.3% which was in the good category. The results of the Paired t-test obtained a significance value of 0.000, that there was a significant difference before and after the application of the Novick learning model to cognitive abilities in electrolyte and nonelectrolyte solution.

Additional Information: Dalam memahami pelajaran kimia, peserta didik cenderung kesulitan terutama pada materi kimia yang banyak memiliki konsep abtrak. Hal ini dikarenakan perubahan prOses belajar dari online menjadi tatap muka, Sehingga menyebabkan peserta didik menjadi pasif dan mendapatkan hasil belajar yang rendah. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut diperlukan metode pembelajaran yang tepat untuk meningkatkan perkembangan kemampuan kognitif peserta didik, model pembelajaran Novick dapat dijadikan salah satu alternatif model pembelajaran yang diterapkan, karena dalam model pembelajaran ini menuntut peserta didik menungkapkan konsepsi awal dan dapat membuat kesimpulan sehingga pemahaman konsep menjadi lebih baik. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan kemampuan kognitif peserta didik sebelum dan sesudah penerapan model pembelajaran Novick pada materi larutan elektrolit dan nonelektrolit. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah one-group pretest-posttest. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, didapatkan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran Novick sebesar 97,3% yang termasuk dalam kategori baik. Hasil uji Paired sampel t-test memperoleh nilai signifikansi 0,000, artinya terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan sebelum dan sesudah penerapan model pembelajaran Novick terhadap kemampuan kognitif pada materi larutan elektrolit dan nonelektrolit.
