Abstract

This study aims to determine student mistakes in solving concept understanding problems on matrix material, and find the factors that cause student errors. The subjects in this study were students of class XI MIPA 5 of SMAN 8 Kota Serang. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The sample was taken by purposive sampling. Data collection techniques were obtained through written test instruments, questionnaires and interviews which were then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that students made mistakes in determining matrix calculation operations, defining determinants and inverses of matrices, and determining matrix determinants, and did not use matrix concepts to solve problems. Then based on the results of the closed questionnaire, the average for each indicator identified as causing student learning difficulties included physiological factors of 83.33% (high criteria), psychology of 63.33% (medium criteria), family of 70.83% (medium criteria), teachers of 73.05% (medium criteria), and schools of 64.44% (medium criteria).

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal pemahaman konsep pada materi matriks, dan menemukan faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan terjadinya kesalahan siswa tersebut. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI MIPA 5 SMAN 8 Kota Serang. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sampel diambil secara purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data diperoleh melalui instrumen tes tulis , angket dan wawancara yang kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunujukan siswa melakukan kesalahan pada menentukan operasi hitung matriks, mendefinisikan determinan dan invers matriks, dan menentukan determinan matriks, dan tidak menggunakan konsep matriks untuk menyelesaikan soal. Kemudian berdasarkan hasil angket tertutup rata-rata untuk tiap indikator yang teridentifikasi menyebabkan kesulitan belajar siswa diantaranya faktor fisiologis sebesar 83,33%(kriteria tinggi), psikologi sebesar 63,33%(kriteria sedang), keluarga sebesar 70,83%(kriteria sedang), guru sebesar 73,05%(kriteria sedang), dan sekolah sebesar 64,44% (kriteria sedang).
