Abstract

In the context in EFL teaching and learning Games has been used by a lot of teaches. This undergraduate thesis explored the effectiveness of using mime game as a teaching technique to enhance students' speaking skill at the tenth-grade at Senior High School 1 Warunggunung, Lebak. Quantitative quasi-experimental design was chosen In this research. The samples were distributed in two classes, an experimental class, and a control class. To collect data, this research used oral pre-test, and post-test as the instrument. The data were analyzed by using validity, reliability, normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis test formula and t-test. Hypothesis testing revealed that value of t-test was higher than the value of t-table (23.30 > 2.00). It indicated the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It implied that mime game affected students’ speaking skill. Furthermore, the effect size calculations demonstrated (d=0.61), which implied a moderate effectiveness of using mime game to teach speaking skill. In conclusion, mime game could be an alternative technique for teacher to help students improve their speaking skills in Learning English.

Additional Information: Dalam konteks pengajaran dan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing (EFL), permainan telah digunakan oleh banyak pengajar. Skripsi sarjana ini mengeksplorasi efektivitas penggunaan permainan mime sebagai teknik pengajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas sepuluh di SMA 1 Warunggunung, Lebak. Desain kuantitatif quasi-eksperimental dipilih dalam penelitian ini. Sampel penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua kelas, yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Untuk mengumpulkan data, penelitian ini menggunakan pre-test dan post-test lisan sebagai instrumen. Data dianalisis menggunakan validitas, reliabilitas, normalitas, homogenitas, serta rumus uji hipotesis dan uji-t. Uji hipotesis menunjukkan bahwa nilai uji-t lebih tinggi daripada nilai tabel-t (23.30 > 2.00). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis nol ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif diterima. Ini menyiratkan bahwa permainan mime berpengaruh pada kemampuan berbicara siswa. Selain itu, perhitungan ukuran efek menunjukkan (d=0.61), yang menandakan efektivitas sedang penggunaan permainan mime dalam mengajar kemampuan berbicara. Sebagai kesimpulan, permainan mime bisa menjadi teknik alternatif bagi guru untuk membantu siswa meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris.
