Abstract

This research applied Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology. This research was carried out in SMPN 1 Kota Serang (Junior High School in Serang City) which is located in Ciceri Serang Banten (Sumurpecung area), The data were collected by direct observation at class VIII C, in-depth interview with an English teacher, test (pre-test and post-test) to 42 students, and documentation. Then, the data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of pre-test showed that there were only 2% students who achieved the standardized score (≥75). Then, after the cycle 1 finished, it was found that the use of Pictionary games did not improve the students' speaking skills significantly because there were only 24% students who achieved the standardized score (≥75). Moreover, the researcher faced some challenges in cycle 1 such as there were many students who weren’t active and enthusiast and the researcher didn’t implement the Pictionary games maximally because the researcher hasn’t adapted the classroom situation well. Therefore, the researcher could overcome the challenges in cycle 2 by inviting the students to be more active with discussion and more exciting games. Because 67% of students obtained the standardized scores. ((≥75). there were improvements in students. pronunciation, confidence, and vocabulary. In conclusion, Pictionary Games could be an alternative technique for teacher to help students improve their speaking skills in Learning English.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMPN 1 Kota Serang yang berlokasi di Ciceri Serang Banten (daerah Sumurpecung), Data dikumpulkan dengan observasi langsung di kelas VIII C, wawancara mendalam dengan guru bahasa Inggris, tes (pre-test dan post-test) kepada 42 siswa, dan dokumentasi. Kemudian, data dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil pre-test menunjukkan bahwa hanya ada 2% siswa yang mencapai nilai standar (≥75). Kemudian, setelah siklus 1 selesai, ditemukan bahwa penggunaan permainan Pictionary tidak meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa secara signifikan karena hanya ada 24% siswa yang mencapai skor standar (≥75). Selain itu, peneliti menghadapi beberapa tantangan pada siklus 1 seperti masih banyak siswa yang kurang aktif dan antusias serta peneliti belum menerapkan permainan Pictionary secara maksimal karena peneliti belum beradaptasi dengan situasi kelas dengan baik. Oleh karena itu, peneliti dapat mengatasi kendala pada siklus 2 dengan mengajak siswa untuk lebih aktif dengan diskusi dan permainan yang lebih seru. Karena 67% siswa memperoleh nilai sesuai standar. (Kesimpulannya, PictionaryGames dapat menjadi teknik alternatif bagi guru untuk membantu siswa meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris.
