Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of students' connection skills in associating mathematical concepts in solving numeracy literacy problems. The purpose of this study was to describe the capacity of students with the Field Dependent and Field Independent cognitive style in solving numeracy literacy questions. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted at class VIII D MTsN 3 Cilegon City based on the results of high, medium and low categories. Techniques for collecting data used observation, Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT) questions, mathematical connection ability tests, and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique uses descriptive qualitative by following the method from Miles & Huberman and using a data validity test in the form of model triangulation. Based on the data analysis and discussion, it can be interpreted that: (1) Students with high category mathematical connection abilities with field-dependent cognitive style are able to carry out three indicators of mathematical connection, including looking for connections between different representations of the same concepts and procedures, understanding connections between mathematics topics, and applying mathematics to other fields of study. (2) Students who demonstrate intermediate level mathematical connection abilities in the field-dependent cognitive style are able to carry out two indicators of mathematical connections, including connections between mathematical topics and looking for relationships between different representations of the same concepts and procedures. (3) Students who show a field-dependent cognitive style at the lowest mathematical connection ability are only able to show one sign of a mathematical connection, namely understanding the representation of the same idea or technique. (4) All students with a field independent cognitive style, especially selected respondents, are capable of all indicators of mathematical connections, including seeking connections between different representations of the same concepts and procedures, understanding the relationships between mathematical topics, applying mathematics to other fields of study, and applying mathematics in everyday life.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya kemampuan koneksi siswa dalam mengaitkan konsep-konsep matematika dalam memecahkan soal literasi numerasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kapasitas siswa dengan gaya kognitif Field Dependent dan Field Independent dalam menyelesaikan soal literasi numerasi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini dilakukan di MTsN 3 Kota Cilegon kelas VIII D berdasarkan hasil kategori tinggi, sedang, dan rendah. Teknik dalam pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, soal Group Embedded Figure Test (GEFT), tes kemampuan koneksi matematis, dan pedoman wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif dengan mengikuti metode dari Miles & Huberman serta menggunakan uji keabsahan data berupa model triangulasi. Berdasarkan analisis data dan pembahasan dapat disimpulkan bahwa: (1) Siswa dengan kemampuan koneksi matematis kategori tinggi dengan gaya kognitif field-dependent mampu melakukan tiga indikator koneksi matematis, antara lain mencari koneksi antar representasi yang berbeda dari konsep dan prosedur yang sama, memahami koneksi antar topik matematika, dan menerapkan matematika di bidang studi lain. (2) Siswa yang menunjukkan kemampuan koneksi matematis tingkat menengah pada gaya kognitif field-dependent mampu melakukan dua indikator koneksi matematis, antara lain memahami koneksi antar topik matematika dan mencari hubungan antar representasi yang berbeda dari konsep dan prosedur yang sama. (3) Siswa yang menunjukkan gaya kognitif field-dependent pada kemampuan koneksi matematis terendah hanya mampu menunjukkan satu tanda koneksi matematis, yaitu memahami representasi ide atau teknik yang sama. (4) Semua siswa dengan gaya kognitif field independent khususnya responden terpilih mampu dalam semua indikator koneksi matematis, termasuk mencari koneksi antara representasi berbeda dari konsep dan prosedur yang sama, memahami hubungan antara topik matematika, menerapkan matematika ke bidang studi lainnya, dan menerapkan matematika dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.
