Abstract

This research is motivated by the low ability of problem solving and the limitations of students in receiving and processing the information received. The amount of information can burden students when the learning process takes place so that a learning model is needed that can improve students' problem solving abilities. The Problem Based Learning model modified by Cognitive Load Theory is believed to be able to improve students' mathematical problem solving abilities. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Pabuaran in the 2022/2023 academic year with the aim of knowing the effect of the Cognitive Load Theory modified Problem Based Learning learning model on the ability of various types of mathematical problems students in Serang District. The method used in this study is the Mix Method with an unbalanced mixed design. This study used two classes with class VIII-B as the experimental class using the Problem Based Learning model modified by Cognitive Load Theory and class VIII-A as the control class using the Problem Based Learning model. The instruments used in this study were test instruments for students' mathematical problem solving abilities and interviews. The results of this study gave the result that the achievement and improvement of students' mathematical problem solving abilities in the experimental class was better than the control class, so that it could be concluded that there was an effect of learning using the learning model of Problem Based Learning modified by Cognitive Load Theory on students' mathematical problem solving abilities in Serang Regency.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini latar belakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan adanya keterbatasan siswa dalam menerima serta mengolah informasi yang diterima. Banyaknya informasi dapat membebani siswa ketika proses pembelajaran berlangsung sehingga dibutuhkan model pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah pada siswa. Model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning termodifikasi Cognitive Load Theory diyakini mampu meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika pada siswa penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP Negeri 2 Pabuaran pada tahun ajaran 2022/2023 dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning termodifikasi Cognitive Load Theory terhadap kemampuan macam masalah matematika siswa di Kabupaten Serang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu Mix Metode dengan desain campuran tidak berimbang. Penelitian ini menggunakan dua kelas dengan kelas VIII-B sebagai kelas eksperimen menggunakan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning termodifikasi Cognitif Load Theory dan kelas VIII-A sebagai kelas kontrol menggunakan model Peoblem Based Learning. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu instrumen test kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dan wawancara. Adapun hasil penelitian ini memberikan hasil bahwa pencapaian dan peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa dikelas eksperimen lebih baik daripada kelas kontrol, sehingga dapat diambil kesimpulan bahwa terdapat pengaruh pembelajaran menggunakan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning termodifikasi Cognitif Load Theory terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa di Kabupaten Serang
