Abstract

Superabsorbent hydrogel (HSA) is one of the important raw materials because of its ability to absorb water or liquid in relatively large quantities big. HSA which has been coated with urea functions as a release control system fertilizer or controlled release fertilizer (CRF) can be a deep solution increase the efficiency of fertilizer use. CRF is designed to control release of nutrients contained in the fertilizer, reducing the frequency of fertilization by meeting the nutritional needs of plants gradually. Glucomannan and Carrageenan is a natural polymer that can be used as a raw material manufacture of hydrogels used as coatings for urea fertilizer. This research aims to determine the ability of hydrogel-based superabsorbent carrageenan-glucomannan as a controlled release fertilizer using cross linking method. This crosslinking method uses a crosslink agent in the form of glutaraldehyde solution. Glutaraldehyde solution serves to change the structure the coating material becomes insoluble in the release medium so that it becomes fertilizer Urea is not easily released. Superabsorbent hydrogels are prepared from carrageenan cross-linked with glucomannan with various combinations ingredients 9:1, 8:2, 7:3, 6:4, and 5:5, as well as variations in cross-linking solutions, namely 2%, 3%, and 4%. Then a number of urea as fertilizer is stored in the hydrogel. The concentration of urea released from the hydrogel was analyzed using uv-vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the combination glucomannan carrageenan with a variation of 9:1 (4%) has a swelling ratio as well the best fraction presentation with a value of 130% for swelling and 95% for fractions and the results of the urea release test also showed a longer soaking time for urea in water, the urea contained in the water also increases.

Additional Information: Hidrogel superabsorben (HSA) merupakan salah satu bahan baku yang penting karena kemampuannya dapat menyerap air atau cairan dalam jumlah yang relatif besar. HSA yang telah dilapisi urea berfungsi sebagai sistem pengendali pelepasan pupuk atau controlled release fertilizer (CRF) dapat menjadi solusi dalam meningkatkan efisiensi penggunaan pupuk. CRF dirancang untuk mengontrol pelepasan nutrisi yang terkandung pada pupuk, mengurangi frekuensi pemupukan dengan memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisi tanaman secara bertahap. Glukomanan dan karagenan merupakan polimer alami yang dapat digunakan sebagai bahan baku pembuatan hidrogel yang digunakan sebagai pelapis pupuk urea. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan hidrogel superabsorben berbasis karagenan-glukomanan sebagai controlled release fertilizer dengan menggunakan metode crosslinking. Metode crosslinking ini menggunakan agen crosslink berupa larutan glutaraldehid. Larutan glutaraldehid berfungsi untuk mengubah struktur bahan penyalut menjadi tidak mudah larut dalam medium release sehingga pupuk urea tidak mudah mengalami pelepasan. Hidrogel superabsorben dibuat dari karagenan yang berikatan silang dengan glukomanan dengan variasi kombinasi bahan 9:1, 8:2, 7:3, 6:4, dan 5:5, serta variasi larutan ikatan silang yaitu 2%, 3%, dan 4%. Kemudian sejumlah urea sebagai pupuk disimpan didalam hidrogel. Konsentrasi urea yang dilepaskan dari hidrogel dianalisa menggunakan spektrofotometer uv-vis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi karagenan glukomanan dengan variasi 9:1 (4%) memiliki rasio swelling dan juga presentasi fraksi terbaik dengan nilai 130% untuk swelling dan 95% untuk fraksi serta hasil uji release urea pula menunjukkan semakin lama waktu perendaman urea dalam air maka urea yang terkandung didalam air semakin meningkat pula.
