Abstract

The World Health Organization places infertility as the fifth highest global disability in the young population. Based on the 2013 Riskesdas in Indonesia, the prevalence of infertile couples is 15-25% and has increased every year. In addition to being a health problem, infertility in the community has a negative social impact, especially women. Women who work full time such as nurses are at risk of experiencing infertility. The shift work system and work stress are also known to be influencing factors. Few studies have examined the association between these two factors in the population of female nurses, especially in the Banten area. Therefore, researchers wanted to determine the association between shift work and work stress with infertility in female nurses at RSUD Banten as an effort to maintain a good quality of life and productivity. This research is an analytic observational study used a cross-sectional study design and a purposive sampling method involving 89 female nurse respondents at RSUD Banten. Respondents were asked to fill out an infertility questionnaire, a Stress Diagnostic Survey questionnaire, and a shift work system questionnaire as well as demographic data. Difference in proportion was analyzed using the Chi-Square test with the SPSS 27.0 program. The results demonstrated that most of the nurses use a shift work system (52.8%), experience severe category of work stress (52.4%) with the most sources of stress being qualitative excess work (55.1%) and responsibility to others (50.6%), and not experiencing infertility (51.7%). Statistical tests showed that there was no significant relationship between the shift work system (p=0.468) and work stress (p=0.603) with infertility among female nurses at RSUD Banten. There is no significant association between the shift work system (p=0.468) and work stress (p=0.603) with infertility among female nurses at RSUD Banten.
