Abstract

This study aims to develop a Three tier multiple choice diagnostic test instrument to reveal students' misconceptions about chemical bonding. This instrument is designed to identify and analyze common misconceptions among students studying chemical bonds. This study uses a diagnostic test instrument development approach which includes stage 1 (defining content), stage 2 (Obtaining information about students' misconceptions), and stage 3 (development of instrument). The method of developing a Three-Tier Multiple Choice diagnostic test instrument involves preliminary study stages, concept analysis, concept map making, item formulation, validation by experts, limited trials to students, reliability analysis, difficulty level and discriminatory power. The results showed that the developed Three-Tier Multiple Choice diagnostic test instrument had high content validity based on expert judgment analyzed using the Aiken index method. Limited trials on a sample of students also showed that this instrument was able to uncover students' misconceptions effectively. Reliability analysis using Cronbach-alpha showed reliable results, confirming the consistency of the instrument in measuring students' understanding of chemical bonds. In conclusion, the Three-Tier Multiple Choice diagnostic test instrument developed in this study has the potential to reveal students' misconceptions about chemical bonds. This instrument can be used as a valid and reliable tool to uncover students' misconceptions about chemical bonds and assist teachers in designing effective learning strategies.

Instrumen ini dirancang untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis miskonsepsi yang umum terjadi pada siswa yang mempelajari ikatan kimia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan pengembangan instrumen tes diagnostik yang meliputi tahap 1 (defining content), tahap 2 (Obtaining information about students' misconceptions), dan tahap 3 (development of instrument). Metode pengembangan instrumen tes diagnostik Three-Tier Multiple Choice melibatkan tahap-tahap studi pendahuluan, analisis konsep, pembuatan peta konsep, perumusan butir soal, validasi oleh para ahli, uji coba terbatas kepada siswa, analisis reliabilitas, taraf kesukaran dan daya pembeda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa instrumen tes diagnostik Three-Tier Multiple Choice yang dikembangkan memiliki validitas konten yang tinggi berdasarkan penilaian ahli yang dianalisis dengan metode indeks Aiken. Uji coba terbatas kepada sampel siswa juga menunjukkan bahwa instrumen ini mampu mengungkap miskonsepsi siswa secara efektif. Analisis reliabilitas menggunakan Cronbach-alpha menunjukkan hasil yang reliabel, menegaskan konsistensi instrumen dalam mengukur pemahaman siswa terkait ikatan kimia. Dalam kesimpulan, instrumen tes diagnostik Three-Tier Multiple Choice yang dikembangkan dalam penelitian ini memiliki potensi untuk mengungkap miskonsepsi siswa pada materi ikatan kimia. Instrumen ini dapat digunakan sebagai alat yang valid dan reliabel untuk mengungkap miskosepsi siswa materi ikatan kimia dan membantu guru dalam merancang strategi pembelajaran yang efektif.
