Abstract
Introduction Diabetic foot is one of the most common complications of diabetes. Diabetic foot incidence has been associated with peripheral artery disease (PAD), which could be diagnosed by Ankle Brachial Index (ABI). In addition to risk factor of diabetic foot, PAD also arrest the resolution of diabetic foot ulcer. Diabetic Foot Ulcer Assessment Scale (DFUAS) is a type of questionnaire used to predict the diabetic foot healing in 4 weeks. The aim of this study is to evaluate the association between ankle brachial index and prediction of diabetic foot healing. Methods This study used cross sectional design and consecutive sampling as the sampling method. Data collection were done at Dr. Drajat Prawiranegara Serang Hospital outpatient clinic and ward, by ABI measurement and wound assessment using DFUAS questionnaire. Patients were classified based on wound healing prediction, healed or not healed in 4 weeks. Statistical association between ABI and wound healing prediction were evaluated using Fisher test. Results A total of 36 diabetic foot ulcer patients were included in this study. Based on Fisher test, ABI significantly associated with would healing prediction (p=0,002) in orthopedic clinic (OR 39,00; 95% CI 2,93-518,84). However, a significant association was not found (p=0,505) between ABI and wound healing prediction in the ward (OR 0,78; 95% CI 0,55-1,10). Conclusion A significant association of ABI and wound healing prediction was found in this research in orthopedic clinic. However, a significant association was not found betweeen ABI and wound healing prediction in the ward.
