Abstract

COVID-19 is a respiratory infectious disease which become a global threat and was declared as global pandemic by WHO on March 11 2020. POGI said there were 536 thousand pregnant women confirmed with COVID-19 in 2021.4 COVID 19 in pregnant women has an impact on neonatal APGAR scores. There are differences in the results of several studies regarding COVID-19 and APGAR scores and the number of studies looking for a relationship between COVID-19 in pregnant women and infants' APGAR scores is still limited, and similar studies have not been conducted in Serang City. So, researchers are interested in conducting research on the relationship between COVID-19 infection in pregnant women and APGAR scores of newborns at Banten Hospital. The research design used in this study is observational analytic with a cross sectional approach. The sampling technique used was not consecutive sampling or random sampling. The number of samples used is 139 samples. The research instrument used in this study was the medical records of mothers who gave birth at Banten Hospital. There were two data analyzes performed, namely univariate and bivariate analysis. Of the 139 pregnant women who gave birth at Banten Hospital, 48.2% were found to be positive for COVID 19 and the APGAR scores of babies born with 89.2% had normal APGAR scores. The results showed that out of 67 pregnant women who were positive for COVID-19, 8 (11.9%) babies were born with low APGAR scores. However, out of 72 pregnant women who were negative for COVID-19, 7 (9.7%) babies were born with low APGAR scores. Based on the chi square test, there was no statistically significant relationship (p > 0.05) between the incidence of COVID19 infection in pregnant women and the APGAR scores of babies born. The COVID-19 infection number in pregnant women at Banten Hospital was 48.2% and there was no significant relationship between COVID-19 infection in pregnant women and the APGAR scores of babies born at Banten Hospital.
