Abstract

This research is based on problems regarding science teaching materials used in junior high schools that have not been prepared based on a learning approach that contains contextual issues and involves students in the learning process so that students’ critical thinking skills have not been maximized. Based on the problem analysis, an e-module based on Socio-Scientific Issues with the theme of Food Loss and Food Waste was developed. This study aims to determine the level of validity of e-modules based on Socio-Scientific Issues on the theme of Food Loss and Food Waste to train the critical thinking skills of junior high school students. The research method used is the Research & Development (R&D) research method. Using Thiagarajan’s 4D development model is only carried out up to 3 stages, namely the stages of defining (define), designing (design), and developing (develop) on validity tests. The instrument used for validity testing is the expert and practitioner validation questionnaire sheet. Data analysis is descriptive, quantitative and qualitative. The results showed that the overall score based on the average percentage of material experts, media experts, and practitioners was 93.35% with the category "Very Valid". This shows that the e-module based on Socio-Scientific Issues on the theme of Food Loss and Food Waste can be declared very valid to train the critical thinking skills of junior high school students in grade IX, because it is by the Socio-Scientific Issues stage and critical thinking ability indicators, so that the e-module can be further piloted at the disseminate stage.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini didasari permasalahan mengenai bahan ajar IPA yang digunakan di SMP belum disusun berdasarkan pendekatan pembelajaran yang memuat isu kontekstual dan melibatkan siswa dalam proses pembelajarannya sehingga kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa belum maksimal. Berdasarkan analisis masalah maka dikembangkanlah e-modul berbasis Socio-Scientific Issues tema Food Loss and Food Waste. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat kevalidan e-modul berbasis Socio-Scientific Issues pada tema Food Loss and Food Waste untuk melatih kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa SMP. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian Research & Development (R&D). Dengan menggunakan model pengembangan 4D dari Thiagarajan hanya dilaksanakan sampai 3 tahap yaitu tahap pendefinisian (define), perancangan (design), dan pengembangan (develop) pada uji kevalidan. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk uji kevalidan yaitu lembar angket validasi ahli dan praktisi. Analisis data secara deskriptif kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai keseluruhan berdasarkan persentase rata-rata dari ahli materi, ahli media, dan praktisi yaitu sebesar 93,35% dengan kategori “Sangat Valid”. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa e-modul berbasis Socio-Scientific Issues pada tema Food Loss and Food Waste dapat dinyatakan sangat valid untuk melatih kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa SMP kelas IX, karena sesuai dengan tahap Socio-Scientific Issues dan indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis, sehingga e-modul dapat diujicobakan lebih lanjut pada tahap disseminate.
