Abstract
Introduction: Stress is a physiological or psychological reaction to internal or external stress exposure. Medical students have higher levels of stress than other students and even the general population, then stress in medical students causes emotional exhaustion which can also affect overall health and academic performance. In the study of Hamza M. Abdulghani et al, it was reported that the highest stress levels were at level I then level II, III, and IV decreased although they were still at a moderate level and then increased slightly at level V, besides that research in Indonesia also showed stress levels that were not much different. Stress level data at each stage of medical education can be used to determine interventions, therefore researchers want to know the comparison of stress levels at the pre-clinical learning stage of medical students. The research will be conducted at the medical faculty of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. Method : This research is a descriptive analytic study with a cross-sectional design. Data collection for the sample used a total sampling technique with a total of 185 medical students and used the Medical Student Stress Questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square test and Kruskal-wallis. Result : The results of this study are that at levels I and III have a lower average stress score than levels II and IV which have a higher average stress score. Furthermore, medical students experience more severe stress on academic stressors (ARS) as much as 77.3%. Students experience more severe stress in students aged 21-23 years (70.1%), in female sex (69%), and in students who live with relatives/boarders (58.2%). Then all levels experience severe stress except level I and are not significantly different. Conclusion : At level I the stress level is still the lowest, then at level II it rises, after that level III decreases again, and peaks at level IV, this is caused by significant differences in academic stressors (ARS) so there must be a solution to be able to prevent or reduce it by providing specific treatment to each class in one way, namely by building student support in medical institutions.
