Abstract
Teacher plays an important role in the world of education. Every teacher has his/her own belief shaped by his/her experience and knowledge. The purpose of this study is to find out and examine the relationship between teachers' belief and their implementation in teaching English speaking skills to their students. The subjects of this study are 4 English teachers at SMAN 19 Kabupaten Tangerang. The research method of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The data in this study were collected through semi-structured interviews, intended to provide flexibility to the interviewer in digging up information and can improvise questions and an overt non-participant observation, aimed at minimizing possible inaccuracies in the way teachers teach on a daily basis. This study found that teachers' belief in determining teaching strategies were dominated by their experience and understanding of students' conditions and needs. The implementation of belief in teaching English was the combination of knowledge, teachers' assumptions and implementation of the curriculum. Hence, it is recommended for teachers to attend seminars and trainings on teaching English speaking skills to students to upgrade knowledge and skills as well as gain new insights to shape better belief as an English teacher.
