Abstract
Students' difficulties in solving math problems often occur, especially in the matter of a two variable system of linear equations. Students' difficulties in solving SPLDV questions can be analyzed with Skemp's understanding ability which is divided into two, namely instrumental understanding and relational understanding. The purpose of this study is to find out students' difficulties in solving SPLDV questions based on Skemp's understanding ability and to briefly describe the factors causing the difficulties VIII experienced by students. This research method is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques using tests, questionnaires, and interviews. The subjects in this study were four students of SMP Negeri 18 Serang City class B who were select ed based on the results of interviews with several students who were divided into instrumental abilities and relational abilities. The results of the study explain that students with instrumental abilities tend to have more difficulty in solving SPLDV questions and for students with relational abilities they have less difficulty in solving SPLDV questions. The cause of students having difficulty in solving SPLDV questions is the lack of students in understanding the concepts of SPLDV itself, as a result when asked to work on questions related to SPLDV students will experience difficulties.

Additional Information: | Kesulitan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika sudah sering terjadi terlebih pada materi sistem persamaan linier dua variabel. Kesulitan siswa dalam menyelesaikan Soal SPLDV dapat dianalisis dengan kemampuan pemahaman Skemp yang terbagi menjadi dua yakni, Pemahaman instrumental dan pemahaman relasional. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mengetahui kesulitan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal SPLDV berdasarkan kemampuan Pemahaman Skemp dan menguraikan secara singkat faktor penyebab kesulitan yang dialami siswa. Metode penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan tes, angket, serta wawancara. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu empat orang siswa SMP Negeri 18 Kota Serang kelas VIII B yang dipilih berdasarkan hasil wawancara beberapa siswa yang terbagi atas kemampuan instrumental dan kemampuan relasional. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa siswa dengan kemamp uan instrumental cenderung lebih banyak mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal SPLDV dan untuk siswa dengan kemampuan relasional lebih sedikit dalam mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal SPLDV. Penyebab siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menyelesaikan soal SPLDV yakni kurangnya siswa dalam memahami konsep dari SPLDV itu sendiri, akibatnya ketika diminta mengerjakan soal yang berkaitan dengan SPLDV siswa akan mengalami kesulitan. | |||||||||
