Abstract

The increasing number of motorized vehicles continues to increase, the latest data according to BPS (Central Statistics Agency) in 2015 the number of motorized vehicles in Indonesia amounted to 121,394,185 million. The use of asbestos brake linings is harmful to health and not environmentally friendly. Therefore, organic brake pads are one of the solutions to replace asbestos brake pads which cause health problems. With the rapid development of technology, a study was conducted to explain the development of organic brake linings using oil palm shells and coconut shells as fillers. The composition of this organic brake lining consists of full powder, each of coconut shell and oil palm shell with a mesh size of 60 (35%), 5% nylon fiber and exposure resin (60%), this study was conducted to determine the surface morphology of organic brake linings and determine its thermal stability. The two organic brake pads developed by coconut organic brake pads are good in macro structure where hardness, porosity and density are superior, while oil palm organic brake pads are macro superior where wear is lower, coefficient of friction is higher which is close to the tribological properties of commercial brake pads. The tribological properties achieved are stable frictional force, reliable strength and good wear resistance. For the price and weight of brake pads, organic brake pads are cheaper than canvas because the ingredients for brake linings are easy to get and lighter in weight.

Additional Information: Meningkatnya jumlah kendaraan bermotor terus meningkat data terakhir menurut BPS ( Badan Pusat Statistik ) tahun 2015 jumlah kendaraan bermotor di indonesia sebesar 121.394.185 juta. Penggunaan kampas rem berbahan asbestos berbahaya bagi kesehatan dan tidak ramah lingkungan. Oleh karena itu kampas rem organik merupakan salah satu solusi Untuk pengganti kampas rem berbahan asbestos yang menyebabkan gangguan kesehatan. Dengan perkembangan teknologi yang pesat ini dilakukan penelitian yang menjelaskan pengembangan kampas rem organik yang menggunakan tempurung kelapa sawit dan tempurungkelapa sebagai filler. Komposisi kampas rem organik ini terdiri dari full serbuk masing-masing tempurung kelapa dan tempurung kelapa sawit dengan ukuran mesh 60 (35%), serat nilon 5% dan resin ekspoksi (60%), penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui morfologi permukaan kampas rem organik dan mengetahui stabilitaas termalnya. Kedua kampas rem organik yang dikembangkan kampas rem organik kelapa baik dalam struktur secara makronya dimana kekerasan, porositas dan densitas lebih unggul, sedangkan kampas rem organik kelapa sawit unggul secara makro dimana keausan lebih rendah, koefisien gesek lebih tinggi yang mendekati propertis tribologi kampas rem komersial. Yang dimana propertis tribologi yang tercapai yaitu gaya gesek yang stabil, kekuatan yang andal dan ketahanan aus yang baik. Untuk harga dan berat kampas rem kampas rem organik lebih murah dibandingkan kampas karena bahan penyusun kampas rem yang mudah di dapat dan beratnya lebih ringan.
