Abstract
ABSTRACT Labor is one of the production factors. Basically, surjan system of diversification farming requires a lot of labors. Tonjong Village in Kramatwatu Sub district is one of the villages that did surjan farming system. The farming crops grown focus on rice and vegetables. The types of the crops grown vary widely. The differences are in the terms of the plants ages and the plants cares. Various types of plants will lead to a wide variety of cropping pattern in a year. These differences will affect the numbers of labors required in a year. Whether or not, the numbers of labors will result in a higher production to provide higher income. The purpose of this study was to analyze the numbers of labors and income in surjan system of diversification farming in each cropping pattern. Plants studied were rice, onion, cabbage and eggplant. The respondents of this study were 26 farmers. The analytical method used in this study was the analysis of the numbers of labors and income. The results of the study showed that the total numbers of labors required in cropping pattern I was 697,90 male labor days /hectare. Cropping pattern II was 674,91 male labor days/hectare. Cropping pattern III was 881,48 male labor days/hectare, and cropping pattern IV was 586,60 male labor days/hectare. The highest total numbers of labors was in cropping pattern III. The income received in cropping pattern I was Rp 82.581.059,35/hectare/year.Cropping pattern II was Rp 87.823.408,02/hectare/year. Cropping pattern III was Rp 82.256.806,34/hectare/year and cropping pattern IV was Rp 71.009.989,50/hectare/year. Keywords: labors, the numbers of labors, income, diversification, surjan system
