Abstract

One of the problems in learning science is that students' conceptual understanding could be more optimal, so the level must be known to overcome it. Concept understanding can be measured with a concept understanding test. One of them is in the form of four-level multiple choice (4TMC). The research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the 4TMC test instrument with the theme of our best friend's electricity which will be used in measuring students' level of understanding of concepts. The research was conducted in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year at three public junior high schools in Tangerang City—mixed method research method with sequential explanatory design. The instrument used was the 4TMC consisting of 42 questions with 12 items declared valid, the validation sheet of test instruments, and non-test instruments in the form of interviews. The effectiveness of the 4TMC test instrument with the electric theme of our friend in measuring students' conceptual understanding has been tested for feasibility based on expert validation covering content aspects of 90% (very valid), presentation aspects of 89% (very valid), linguistic aspects of 92% (very valid). Based on the validation of 26 students as measured by the SPSS statistic, the results obtained were 12 valid questions, with eight with medium difficulty level and four with easy difficulty level, and a reliability of 0.699, indicating high-reliability interpretation. The results of the students' concept understanding test on the theme of electricity, our friend obtained a percentage of students' understanding of the concept, namely understanding the concept of 16% (meager), not understanding the concept of 58% (enough) and misconceptions of 26% (low). Therefore, follow-up is needed, such as developing learning strategies to learn media to overcome and prevent common understanding.

Additional Information: Salah satu permasalahan dalam pembelajaran IPA adalah pemahaman konsep siswa yang belum maksimal sehingga harus diketahui tingkatannya agar dapat diatasi. Pemahaman konsep dapat diukur dengan dengan tes pemahaman konsep. Salah satunya berupa pilihan ganda empat tingkat (4TMC). Penelitian dilakukan untuk mengetahui efektivitas instrumen tes 4TMC tema listrik sahabat kita yang akan digunakan dalam mengukur tingkat pemahaman konsep siswa. Penelitian dilakukan pada semester ganjil TA 2022/2023 pada tiga SMP Negeri di Kota Tangerang. Metode penelitian mix method dengan desain sequential explanatory. Instrumen yang dipergunakan adalah 4TMC sebanyak 42 butir soal dengan 12 butir soal dinyatakan valid, lembar validasi instrumen tes dan instrumen nontes berupa wawancara. Efektivitas instrumen tes 4TMC tema listrik sahabat kita dalam mengukur pemahaman konsep siswa telah diuji kelayakan berdasarkan validasi ahli meliputi aspek isi sebesar 90% (sangat valid), aspek penyajian sebesar 89% (sangat valid), aspek kebahasaan 92% (sangat valid). Berdasarkan validasi 26 siswa yang diukur dengan SPSS statistik didapatkan hasil 12 soal valid dengan delapan soal dengan tingkat kesukaran sedang dan empat soal dengan tingkat kesukaran mudah, serta reliabilitas sebesar 0,699 yang menunjukkan interpretasi reliabilitas tinggi. Hasil tes pemahaman konsep siswa tema listrik sahabat kita mendapatkan persentase pemahaman konsep siswa yaitu paham konsep sebesar 16% (sangat rendah), tidak paham konsep sebesar 58% (cukup) dan miskonsepsi sebesar 26% (rendah). Oleh karena itu, perlu tindak lanjut seperti pengembangan strategi pembelajaran hingga media pembelajaran untuk mengatasi dan mencegah rendahnya pemahaman.
