Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effect of peer tutoring method on cognitive abilities and motivation of student learning. A quasi experiment was used with randomized control group only design. This study was conducted at SMPN 2 Ciruas on VII grade 2nd semester academic year 2016/2017. The sampling technique used in this study was random sampling. Data was collected by using cognitive ability tests and learning motivation questionnaire. The average value of the cognitive abilities of students in the experimental class at 72,67 with good criterion while the control class was 56,33 with a sufficient criterion. Average grades for motivation to learn in experimental class of 81,95 with good criterion while the control class of 70,77 with sufficient criteria. Analysis of hypothesis test using t-test with significance level α = 0.05 obtained 0.000 for cognitive abilities and 0.000 for motivation to learn, it can be concluded that the implementation of peer tutoring methods affected to the student’s cognitive abilities and motivation toward the characteristic of living things concept at SMPN 2 Ciruas.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode tutor sebaya terhadap kemampuan kognitif dan motivasi belajar siswa. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain Randomized control group only. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMPN 2 Ciruas pada kelas VII semester II tahun pelajaran 2016/2017. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Random Sampling. Pengambilan data penelitian menggunakan tes kemampuan kognitif siswa pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 72,67 % dengan kriteria baik sedangkan pada kelas kontrol sebesar 56,33% dengan kriteria cukup. Perolehan rata-rata untuk motivasi belajar pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 81,95 % dengan kriteria baik sedangkan kelas kontrol sebesar 70,77% dengan kriteria cukup. Hasil analisis uji hipotesis menggunakan uji t pada taraf signifikasi α = 0,05 diperoleh signifikansi 0,000 untuk kemampuan kognitif dan sebesar 0,000 untuk motivasi belajar, maka dapat disimpulkan penerapan metode tutor sebaya berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan kognitif dan motivasi belajar siswa pada konsep ciri-ciri makhluk hidup. | |||||||||
