Abstract

Palm oil production has increased along with the growth of the palm oil industry. This leads to the increasing of generated solid and liquid waste. Solid waste is oil palm empty fruit bunches (TKKS). The largest component of TKKS composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. TKKS has the potential to be processed into various products, one of which is lactic acid. The aim of this study to process TKKS into lactic acid and obtain volume of bacteriaLactobacillus delbrueckii to highest lactic acid production using simultaneous saccharification-fermentation (SSF). SSF method is the combination of enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose by continuous fermentation of sugars to produce the end product is lactic acid. SSF process is done by inserting a 100 gr TKKS powder and water at a ratio of 1: 1 into an anaerobic batch reactor. After that add Trichoderma pseudokonimgii 2.5 gr with the variation of liquid inoculum of bacteria L. delbrueckii 0.25 ; 0.5 , 1.5, and 2.5 ml with incubation time of 5 days, then every 24 hours to analyze the levels of lactic acid by High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Results showed that the highest concentration of lactic acid was 49.701 ppm obtained in addition volume of bacteria Lactobacillus delbrueckii 1.5 ml.
