Abstract

Using oxamyl as an active ingredient in the manufacture of pesticides produces by-products classified as hazardous, toxic, and non-biodegradable waste with high chemical oxygen demand (COD) values. The oxamyl waste treatment process uses the conventional method with a reasonably high process cost. Effective and efficient technology for treating waste from the carbamate group is the advanced oxidation processes (AOP) technology. This method combines several reactions: ozonation with ultraviolet (UV) waves and oxidizing solid agents peroxide and persulfate to produce OHfree radicals. This study aimed to obtain the best type of oxidizing agent and number of cycles for the degradation rate of COD and %Oxamyl. Oxamyl waste treatment uses three oxidizing agents: peroxide, persulfate, and a mixture of peroxide & persulfate. The oxidizing dose used is 5000 ppm. The best results from this stage are flowed by a pump to be circulated in a series of AOP devices with several process cycles, namely 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, and 160. In this study, the best oxidizing agent for oxamyl distillate and residue was a mixture of peroxide and persulfate within 48 hours with COD values and oxamyl content of 4254.63 ppm 0.31% and 43173.21 ppm 1.9%, respectively
