Abstract

An Analysis of Students’ Difficulties in Comprehending Recount Text in Magazine at Second Grade SMPN 6 Cilegon By Nida Tsuraya NIM. 2223100050 ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to find out the student’ difficulties in reading comprehension activity through magazine and to categorize those difficulties faced by the students. The research methodology used in this research was qualitative approach. The researcher highlighted the use of descriptive method in order to explore the phenomenon of the students’ difficulties in reading comprehension. She applied observational case studies by directly observing the participants in the smallscales settings. The data was gathered by using observation, questionnaires and interview. The research subjects were the students at the second grade of SMPN 6 Cilegon. In analyzing the data, the researcher found the findings. She obtained the data by distributing the questionnaire, observing the students’ learning process and conducted interview. Next, the researcher looked for supporting data from libraries and international networks. After that, she re-read and comprehended all of the data, classified and the researcher concluded the data descriptively by her own words. The result of this research showed that consideration of language learning such as media, students’ styles and strategies, teacher role were the main factors which contribute a lot of students’ difficulties. The main difficulty was from students themselves. They still had limited vocabularies knowledge which created a big problem for them. Thus, they failed to understand the whole information. The students seldom had of reading comprehension practices in class and outside also became another difficulty. In summary, the students should have more practice to enrich their vocabularies.
