Abstract
Dita Yunia Carolina 2223100526 This research is An Analysis of Students’ Code Switching in Speaking Classroom Activity at the XI Bahasa of MAN 2 Kota Serang in 2014. The objectives of the research were to find out the types of code switching used by students and to explain the factors or reasons that cause students used code switching. This research is a qualitative research through case study. The data in this research was collected through observation, transcript, and interview. Observation and transcript were used to the first research question which is to find out the types of code switching. It was obtained during the teaching and learning process in the classroom. And interview is used to the second research question which is to explain the factors or reasons that cause students used code switching. In analyzing the data, the researcher used matrix analysis of Miles and Huberman that consists of data reduction, data display and drawing conclusion/verification. Data reduction was used to select the data from observation, transcript and interview. In data display, the researcher showed the result of observation, transcript and interview. Last, in drawing conclusion/ verification, the researcher concluded the result of the research. The result of this research showed there were three types of code switching used by students, including inter-sentential switching, emblematic switching and establishing continuity with the previous speaker. The factors or reasons that cause students used code switching are; to talking about some particular topic, to express student’s feelings, to being emphatic or express solidarity and interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors).
